There are certain stereotypes that both men and women experience. For men, one of the big ones is they have to like sports. If they don’t like sports, they are seen as less of a man and are often made fun of.

I have first-hand experience with this. Growing up I never liked sports. They have always been a bore to me and gym class growing up was a nightmare because of it. I was made fun of not for only disliking sports, but also being horrible at them. I have no athletic ability whatsoever so sports are dreadful. Even when I tried in gym class, it apparently was never good enough.

Sports aren’t the only thing in the world and people need to realize that. Sports just never appealed to me and that doesn’t make me less of a man.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as a “real” man. People should be allowed to like and dislike whatever they want without harsh judgment. Sports falls under that category. If anybody believes otherwise, then they can show me the official handbook that tells me where it is required for a man to enjoy sports.

The whole idea that someone isn’t a “real” anything because they don’t follow what a lot of other people do is ridiculous. Every person is their own person and should be seen as such. Putting people in a category that others believe they should follow when it comes to likes/dislikes is just plain stupid. When as a society did it become the notion that men have to like sports. There are plenty of women who also like sports so it’s definitely not a gender thing.

Whatever the reason may be, sports should not be a required enjoyment for men. There are plenty of other things that men may enjoy and that’s all that matters. People who believe all men should enjoy sports need to reevaluate their outlook on life.
