When was the last time you smiled? If you cannot remember, then you should put on a big smile right now. Even when you are feeling a bit down and especially when you feel happy and joyful, a lovely smile should be decorating your face. And yes, your smile is your best (and the least expensive) accessory. So, do not necessarily give up on your makeup routine and your favorite pair of high heels, but do bear in mind that a captivating smile is a gesture that signals approachability and attractiveness.

Smiling makes you look more beautiful

Undoubtedly, every person is gorgeous in their own, unique way. However, there is a connection between attractiveness and happiness, physically symbolized with a smile. A study in which participants were asked to rate how attractive was the same face with different expressions dealt with this connection. The conclusion was that a smiling face was ranked the same or more attractive than a physically “relatively attractive” face that was less smiley.

Thus, we could say that a smile is alluring. However, in order to have a captivating smile, you must take care of your teeth. Oral hygiene and regular visits to your dentist are extremely important, not only for the smile to serve as a gorgeous physical feature but also for your general wellbeing. Additionally, it is desirable to whiten your teeth from time to time with an effective treatment, such as the Zoom teeth whitening procedure. A treatment done by professionals is the safest way to refresh and brighten your smile, especially if you are an avid coffee lover. Indeed, is there anything more charming than a bright, white smile?

Body language is one of the most influential tools used in communication. A study conducted a few years ago showed that there are higher chances that a man will approach a woman who is smiling while making eye contact with him rather than if the lady is only making eye contact, but without a smile on her face. According to this study, men find it that if a woman is looking at them and smiling, she is showing interest and most likely, she is giving a subtle invitation to the man to approach her. Therefore, if you are too shy to approach a guy that you like, a simple, sincere smile will encourage him to make the first step.

Smiling is a sign of trustworthiness

Research shows that physical attractiveness is important to both men and women when they are selecting a partner. Subconsciously, one’s physical description will show us if they are healthy and if they have good genes. Furthermore, it has been shown on a number of studies that men tend to find women more attractive when they are smiling. This could be partly due to the fact that a broad, healthy smile shows men that the woman in question is healthy, but also because we tend to trust smiling people. Consequently, a smile will show a man that the woman he is looking at is trustworthy, and trust is an important and necessary factor for a stable relationship.

If you smile at someone, the chances that they will smile back to you are incredibly high, Professor Ronald Riggio writes. So, if you smile at someone, it is likely that he will smile back to you and both of you will not only physically appear more attractive, but you will feel better and a positive atmosphere will be created. A great moment to grab someone’s attention and to start a conversation that can even possibly turn into a first date.

To conclude, never underestimate the power of a sincere smile. Science shows us that it can do wonders.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
