Inspiration comes in many forms for writers, what made you decide to write Shen Medicine?

My inspiration was my own positive experiences from using the techniques of Shen medicine and from seeing how it has helped some people relieve their suffering and change their lives. I have always had a calling to help people recover from illnesses, and I have helped many people both as a surgeon and as a physician. What is wonderful about Shen medicine is that it allows people to become actively involved in the healing process of their own illness, or the illness of their loved one. Those who are healthy can use this special knowledge and do simple practices themselves that can help them maintain good health and avoid illness. I have presented my scientific research on Shen medicine to my medical colleagues at various conferences, but, with this book, I wanted to make the scientific evidence about the effectiveness of Shen medicine available to the public in clear, readable language that anyone can understand.

How have the methods in Shen Medicine changed your life and how you view health and illness?

For myself, Shen medicine and the methods I have learned from Master Sha have had a positive impact on my life.  It’s hard to express how good I feel, better than at any other time in my life. Through this approach, I was able to combine my two lifelong passions, a healing path and a spiritual path. Western medicine does incredible things to help people on the physical level, on the level of matter. Chinese traditional medicine also can have remarkable effects through working on the level of energy. Shen medicine adds message or information, and a flow of positive messages that can support both health and happiness.

When you share the information in this book with people, how do they respond?

Some people are open to learning new approaches and welcome additional ways to support their health and happiness. For people who are skeptical of new approaches, I ask them to give it a chance and to read some of the 46 case studies that I present as a research scientist. I encourage people to try Shen medicine and discover for themselves what it has to offer.

Since you are also a neurosurgeon I have to ask – have you found any similarities between western medicine and Shen medicine?

Western medicine and Shen medicine have similar goals, which is to help people heal. I always recommend using all the modalities that may help people and believe that they work together. The best thing to do is to combine them and use the strengths of each to heal and maintain good health. Hippocrates, the father of our modern conventional medicine, was a physician and priest and the first hospital in Europe was his temple of the God of Medicine on the Greek island of Kos. We somehow forgot our roots and are using only one side of his treatment approach.

Do you have any new projects in the works you can let us in on?

Right now, I am continuing my ongoing scientific research on the effects of Shen medicine through the Sha Research Foundation and am committed to sharing whatever I discover with the widest audience possible. I’ll certainly let people know as soon as I have another book ready.
