Life to Live

If I were to give myself a letter four years ago when I started college, this is what it would say.

The Thrive Global Community welcomes voices from many spheres on our open platform. We publish pieces as written by outside contributors with a wide range of opinions, which don’t necessarily reflect our own. Community stories are not commissioned by our editorial team and must meet our guidelines prior to being published.

Welcome to our new section, Thrive on Campus, devoted to covering the urgent issue of mental health among college and university students from all angles. If you are a college student, we invite you to apply to be an Editor-at-Large, or to simply contribute (please tag your pieces ThriveOnCampus.) We welcome faculty, clinicians, and graduates to contribute as well. Read more here.

Get ready for the hardest four years of your life, but don’t worry because you are so strong. The pain and the defeat you will endure will take everything out of you, but it will not define you.

Your heart will ache and your mind will tell you no more, but you are resilient. Pushing through the pain will be your toughest battle yet. You may not see the end anywhere in sight, but it is there.

This battle is not to see how weak you are, not to see how easily you can break; no, it’s to prove just how strong you are. You cannot be defeated; only you can choose to give up.

Keep fighting warrior. You have so much more life to live.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
