Life Betterment… what could be more meaningful than a better life? This literally means, “to make better.” How can we foster this with such stressful times?
When I travel, I let go. This is actually part of the wheel that I have implemented in my coaching practice…including travel ie. leisure. Basically, what helps us relax. In our culture, we are driven to make, produce, and provide. There is a place for fun, recreation, play. To be & rest, this has purpose.
When we frolick and enjoy our free time, I would argue the case we are attending to what matters most: life betterment. This is the new term for self care.
Relationships, community, & connection all foster happiness. Research has shown and proven this as part of the Harvard Study of Adult Development. “The surprising finding is that our relationships and how happy we are in our relationships has a powerful influence on our health,” said Robert Waldinger, director of the study, a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospitaland a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Today, integrate something you enjoy throughout activities. I may not feel happy when I do chores around the house, however when I think about the virtue of responsibility, I find meaning in seaming boring tasks. The result is a clean organized home, a mowed lawn, cooked dinner, etc.
Tie in the results of research consistently pointing to connection being the key to making life better. Do a chore with someone. Talk, joke, sing to find enjoyment. Don’t focus on what is going wrong. Instead think on what is going well.
Better is more, and more of what I had yesterday can only foster hope.
