Leaning into uncertainty

The Key to Effortless Creation

The Thrive Global Community welcomes voices from many spheres on our open platform. We publish pieces as written by outside contributors with a wide range of opinions, which don’t necessarily reflect our own. Community stories are not commissioned by our editorial team and must meet our guidelines prior to being published.

So many people I see have taken the leap to relentlessly pursue their dreams only to have those very same dreams turn into the biggest source of stress and anxiety in their lives.

The reason for this is quite simple and this small shift could change everything.

When dive into pursuing our desires, we find ourselves treading new waters. It’s in this unfamiliar territory that the control center in our frontal lobe senses danger, goes into survival mode and sends out red alerts to seek safety. Safety that lies in the known, the predictable, and the ability to have complete control over our circumstances.

As a result, we move cautiously towards our goals with tense muscles, clenched jaws and white knuckles; trying to control and dictate every possible outcome.

We hold on so tight, a neediness to get it right the first time arises and we end up living in a state of survival. We find ourselves having sleepless nights and are never fully present because our minds are somewhere else; caught up in the land of ‘what if’s’ and possible disaster.

It’s this tightness that creates resistance and prevents the realization of our goals; damning the fluidity of creation. Pretty soon, the thing that once brought us joy is the source of our suffering.

But one simple shift can prevent this entirely

Instead of clinging to the perceived safety of control, the key is to lean into and embrace the element of uncertainty.

We must accept that there isn’t a bright light that illuminates the path from start to finish. There will be adjustments to be made along the way as we learn through trial and error.

However, instead of worrying about all the things that could potentially go wrong…

We can replace that worry with excitement. Excitement for all the possibilities that could occur. Excitement for everything that could go right; Holding on to a KNOWING that everything is working out in your favor. You’re not in this alone and when you allow it, there is a force much greater than you that is playing on your team.

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist.

This is an invitation to surrender to the unknown; to loosen the grip on the reigns a little and watch how your progress accelerates and your stress melts away.

If you’d like some assistance stepping into a place of flow and effortless creation then I look forward to hearing from you.
