Leadership Goals for 2020

Every new year brings a variety of opportunities for business development. This year, the connotation of a new focus or 2020 vision, has been prevalent. Most industries are capitalizing on this play on words and creating ambitious plans for the year ahead. Companies embarking on a new decade with solid leadership are likely to experience sustainable growth. Here are a few of the most enterprising ideas for developing and improving leadership goals for 2020.

Assess Leadership Styles

Leadership improvements can only be effectively implemented when you have a sound starting point. There are four basic leadership quadrants, with several subsets in each category. Autocratic, democratic, transformational, and Laissez-faire leadership styles have unique attributes. Qualified managers may exhibit more than one leadership style but tend to lean more heavily in one particular area. A well rounded team of leaders ensures that the company experiences profitable seasons and beneficial employee development.

Identify Strengths and Challenges

The main benefit of having a diverse leadership team is the ability to produce an unbiased snapshot of the company. When the leadership team can agree on current strengths and agree on obstacles to be overcome, the business will begin to move in the right direction. This fluidity requires a keen sense of vision, which should look the same to each member of the leadership team. Identified challenges can then be distributed among various departments with specific plans for improvement. The shared achievements and responsibilities provide a clear sense of objectives. An honest look at the company’s past and present condition is important during this phase. Otherwise, each group could be working toward a different or unattainable goal.

Coach Toward Specific Goals

Effective coaching obviously requires that each member of the leadership team understands their personal objectives in the overall scheme of the company’s mission. Each member of the subordinate team should be given specific action items. Expecting accountability from each member of the group is crucial for success. Routine progress meetings should be scheduled in advance and be highly prioritized in order to encourage participation. Members of the leadership team should arrive prepared to discuss their team’s progress as well as any stumbling blocks that may have been present during the review period.
