My biggest strategy is saying YES to life. Yes to everything. Every emotion, every thought, everything life brings my way. I realized that anything dysfunctional is dysfunctional and harmful because we said NO to something. Our resistance is our sickness. Our no’s to life, no’s to experiences, emotions are the sickness we have to cure. Saying yes to love but saying no to hate, saying yes to happiness but saying no to sadness created a sick, unfulfilled, disoriented community of people. You say no to your self every time you say to life. LIFE IS YOU. THE WHOLE LIFE IS YOU. So whenever we say no to life, an emotion, an experience, we say no to our selves, our connection with ourselves and we create dysfunctional habits, negativity, sickness. I believe and also teach that SAYING YES TO EVEYTHING IS LIFE IS THE BIGGEST LESSON TO LEARN. And other than that I actually have no strategies at all. I know that if I try lead my life it will lead to unhappiness, sickness, problems, but if I let the divine power lead me, I live inside THE MIRACLE OF LIFE. In that reality, I am healed, in love, in bliss forever.
I had the pleasure of interviewing NEVSAH a spiritual leader committed to your enlightenment. As a best-selling author, a faculty member of the Graduate School of Behavioral Health Sciences, a consultant to Better Physiology, Ltd., the Founding President of the Breath Coaching Federation (https://www.breathcoachingfederation.org), the national representative of International Breathwork Foundation, Nevsah has won numerous awards in her field and has been an inspiration to millions. She is a recognized authority on emotional and physical healing through breathing.
Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
My own journey brought me here. Even if I literally had everything in my life, I was feeling unfulfilled, disoriented. I, had no motivation, no energy, could not control my negative thinking and I did not know what to do. This was 20 years ago, when I was in my 20s. I was healthy, had a great life, was always successful, went to the best schools in Turkey, had a great social life, my family, friends, everybody supported and loved me. I really had it all and yet I was really unhappy. I did not know why. When I look back right now, I can see that I was searching for something I already had but could not connect with that because of my breathing habit. We read, hear, know about the importance of connecting with ourselves, with our truth, with our inner self, but nobody shows us how. I mean, how to really really, REALLY have a deep relationship with ourselves. Yoga, meditation, self education, coaching helps. Of course. But these did not help me. I was a yoga teacher, doing meditation everyday, all kinds of breathing techniques, going to India twice a year, meeting all kinds of gurus but nothing seemed to help me. I was still thinking to much, I was still creating a heel inside my head, still disoriented and still did not want to live anymore… I know there are people out there like me. I know people really really REALLY want to change. They want the real thing. Not toys that will make them feel good for awhile and then go away. I would practice yoga, do meditation, breathing techniques and I felt ike I wanted to stay there, in that centered, calm, perfect state forever! And I could not do it. Why? Because I had a dysfunctional breathing habit like most people and my habit would get triggered from different situations in my life and what was happening in my respiratory chemistry would ruin my psychology even without me realizing it happen! It would happen automatically, without my control and I would be left with dissatisfaction, unhappiness and lots of negativity. Then I would meditate again, calm down, get back to stress, dissatisfaction again, then back to the yoga mat. This was a vicious circle and I did not want that. I wanted something SUSTAINABLE. I wanted to wake up calm and centered and go to bed like that, without needing to practice a breathing exercise, yoga or meditation. OI somehow knew this was possible because I was there when I was a child. You know it is possible! But you don’t know how because dysfunctional habits are learned unconsciously and they get triggered without you realizing it. But the moment I got some support from breath analysists and started working on my dysfunctional habits, everything started changing. Now I am not only healthy and full of energy but also centered, positive, calm, happy and fullfilled and I do not need any technique, practice to be that. This is it!
What does it mean for you to live “on purpose”? Can you explain? How can one achieve that?
Living on purpose means sharing what helped me heal, psychologically, mentally, physically with everyone. Spreading the word. Telling people IT IS POSSIBLE TO BE IN PERFECT SHAPE ALL THE TIME, MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY, WITHOUT NEEDING A METHOD, WITHOUT HAVING TO DO THIS OR THAT. Perfect psychological and physical health is possible just the way we are, but only if we have a functional, natural breathing habit. And we had that when we were children. Imagine the time you were a little child. Connect with your feelings, who you were, how you were feeling, how much you were enjoying life, how much fun this life was… All of it, all of this was because you had a functional, natural breathing habit. But unfortunately we all learn to manipulate our breathing for different reasons and we lose our connection with our natural selves. Working on our breath scientifically and spiritually, all at the same time allows us to connect with our natural selves which changes everything! So purpose for me means TELLING THE WHOLE WORLD ABOUT THE MIRACLE OF BREATH.
Do you have an example or story in your own life of how your pain helped to guide you to finding your life’s purpose?
As I wrote above, having it all and not being fulfilled was very very painful. I thought there was something wrong with me. I remember asking myself ‘’why are you like this? You are healthy, beautiful, abundant, successful, have love, friendship, family, everything in your life, why are you not happy? Are you mad?’’ This was going on my head on and on and on and I just could not find why. I was not able to talk about this to anyone, even my parents. I was having a hard time waking up, had no energy, no passion, no goals, nothing. And the worst thing was that I had already done everything, tried everything I thought might help. I was a yoga teacher, doing meditation everyday, going to India, to ashrams two times year, doing energy work, getting coaching sessions. These would ‘’seem to help me’’ for awhile but then I would get back to my depressive, disoriented state again. I had no idea my breathing habit was doing that to me because it was actually happening unconsciously. There was a breathing habit my body learned, probably in my childhood and that was getting triggered all the time, in different situations in my life and I was feeling horrible when that happened. I had no control on it. Like all dysfunctional habits people learn, we do not have any control because mainly our bodies are doing it. We all need support. We all need an expert that will analyze our dysfunctional behavior we are not aware of, and support us in overcoming that habit. Or else we are trapped. I was. And I know many people are. Nothing seemed to help, until I met a breath facilitator who analysed my breathing habit and I started working with him on changing my breathing behavior. I really don’t know what changed in my being, (even if I now know as an expert what changed) because I was not doing that dysfunctional habit anyway. My body was doing it. I was totally unconscious about it. Maybe this is the most important thing for people to get. And my purpose in life is tell that to people. STOP BLAMING YOUR SELF. YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL OF YOUR DYFCUNTIONAL HABITS THAT ARE RUINING YOUR LIFE. YOU ARE NOT DOING IT CONSCIOUSLY. YOUR SYSTEM, YOUR PHYSIOLOGY, EVEN YOUR BRAIN LEARNED SOME HABITS AND THEY ARE HAPPENING AUTOMATICALLY. THE GOOD NEW IS YOU CAN CHANGE THAT BY GETTING SUPPORT! 🙂
The United States is currently rated at #18 in the World Happiness Report. Can you share a few reasons why you think the ranking is so low?
I believe that the only reason is dysfunctional breathing and thinking habits which is the reason for all problems we are facing in our world. We ruin our worlds, our bodies, our families, children, psychology without even knowing about it and we all need real help. For me real help is only supporting a person’s habit. The rest is just story. Teaching a technique to calm you down, to relax you when you are stressed, doing exercise, doing that, doing this is just like taking a pill or drinking alcohol. People are so used to ‘’soothing themselves’’ with artificial stuff, they even starting using breath as a pacifier. I believe breathing techniques are no different than pacifiers. They do not change the source of the problem but only work on the result level. I am no longer interested in soothing myself or people when they are upset, unhappy, stressed, unhealthy etc. I am only interested in REAL CHANGE. And REAL CHANGE CAN ONLY HAPPEN WHEN YOU CHANGE YOUR HABITS. That is why I just love behavioural science. It works on the core of human being. We combined breath work with coaching and behavioural science basics, which supports people change any dysfunctional breathing habit they have, (that is keeping them unhealthy, stressed, negative, unfulfilled, unhappy) and change those habits forever. When your body learns a new, healthier, functional breathing habit, it stays. That is the beauty of what we are doing and that is one of the most important reason I am really truly committed to this work. WHEN YOU CHANGE PEOPLE’S BREATHING HABITS, THEIR LIVES CHANGE TOTALLY. If we cannot do that, I don’t see anyway people can be happy, fulfilled, healthy anymore. Nothing will help.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I am very grateful to what I do because I literally see people changing their whole lives, instantly, after changing their breathing habits. They go beyond their limits, stop doing whatever they were doing dysfunctional, they stop doing the things they were doing that was ruining their lives, health, relationships, business and naturally start building their lives from scratch. That is amazing for me to watch. I met amazing people over the years. People cured cancer, MS, migraine, attention deficit problems, relationship problems, ulcers, diabetes, many illness, their psychology, everything, just by changing their breathing habits. That is big! I believe being successful in what I do let me to more people and gave me the chance to support more people that were in need of healing or just change.

Do you have any favorite books, podcasts, or resources that most inspired you to live with a thirst for life?
Everything I ever read, listened to, heard always showed me that I already know everything by heart so I just started teaching. I started sharing the one and only knowledge I believe each and every enlightened being is connected to and I learn by my own teachings. I am inspired by my own life and my own teachings. Being able to say yes to the divine power keeps us in an amazing learning process. I am already in that process so I do not learn from the world, the world learns from my connection with The Divine and I actually learn with the world. 🙂 My favourite books are novel books. I love reading about true life stories, fiction and all kinds of stories. I choose story books. And my favourite ones are love stories. 🙂
Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote” that relates to having a Joie De Vivre? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?
LIFE IS A MOMENT AND IT IS THIS MOMENT. I do not know who said it, maybe I said it in one of my seminars, that sentence is like a heart beat to me. It says everything and yet says nothing. I sometimes take a deep breath and say ‘’THIS MOMENT’ and then let it out. And again… THIS MOMENT… Then, it goes. And another, new moment… The ability of saying YES to all those moments I believe is THE SECRET OF LIFE.
Are you working on any exciting new projects now? How do you think that will help people?
Nevsah Institute is the fastest growing breath coaching school in the world. We train more than 300 breath coaches ever year. They are now all around the world, supporting people change their breathing habits. I am privileged to be the leader they choose so I am doing my best to spread the word around the world and do courses, give lectures, train as much people as I can till my last breath. I see that what we do in our courses, The Miracle Course is changing the world and I am humbled by this. I did not even plan this. Like I said, I do not lead, I let The Divine lead me and everything happens by itself. So now, what that Divine Power tells me is to keep on going and to reach as many people as I can by getting support from people like. I am very very grateful for this interview and I know these sentences will change thousands of people’s lives.
