Do you ever wake up in the morning feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, unchallenged, and have nothing to look forward to? It doesn’t have to be that way. One idea that I always advise my clients is to “Get Out of your mind and connect with your spirit”
In our society we are taught to figure things out, to think, to be the brainiacs . While in reality, our brain gives us solutions we already know. If we want to change our life, get out of the rut, get unstuck and move from lethargic status quo to ravenous living we need to be able to connect with our spiritual/ energy field and be inspired by new ideas that our mind would have never created. One of my favorite authors Wayne Dyer stated that the word inspired comes from 2 words “ in spirit”. Yep, you cannot get “inminded” and create new things in life. So get out of your brain in a regular, disciplined way!
As a part of our series interviewing experts on how to live a “ravenous life” — a life filled with the passion, pleasure, playfulness and abundance that come naturally to those who dare to be authentic, I had the pleasure of interviewing Angelika Breukers, an author, speaker and workshop facilitator with a background in Bowen Therapy. Angelika is a change maker who after changing her own life has dedicated her career to helping others change their story and change for life with her acceptance, belief, choice (ABC) program.
Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
Following a difficult upbringing, I was in a job I did not enjoy and found myself spending years thinking “this can’t be it.” One day I realised it wasn’t. A burning desire to change my perspective and ultimately change my life was what brought me into this career path. I pursued my own self-development, learning ways to achieve the change I desired. It’s been a journey and one that set me in good stead for helping other people gain a different perspective in order to live a life that brings them joy.
What does it mean for you to live “on purpose”? Can you explain? How can one achieve that?
For me it’s all about alignment; aligning myself to my life purpose. On the way to success we seem to experience what we call ‘failure.’ It’s remembering that this ‘failure’ is a sign that you’ve taken action and gained feedback about what you can do differently next time. I use what I teach. I practice being grateful, focusing on what I have and keep checking in on what I am thinking. Our way of thinking creates our reality, so our mindset and actions need to be in line and in truth to our purpose.
Do you have an example or story in your own life of how your pain helped to guide you to finding your life’s purpose?
Since a young child, I was left with the pain and feeling of not belonging, not being good enough and wanting to be at peace. I wanted to belong, be loved and be true to myself. I transmuted the pain I felt and used it as fuel to move forward with courage and strength. There was a time that I wanted to get rid of the part of me that experienced the pain, but I found that instead I had to accept it. It was accepting this truth that led me to my life purpose as only the truth can heal, and this is something I teach.
The United States is currently rated at #18 in the World Happiness Report. Can you share a few reasons why you think the ranking is so low?
Because people are just so distracted by the external noise and continuously look for answers outside of themselves. It’s a very noisy environment, an environment that is constantly bombarding people with messages of who to be, how to be and what to do. When a person looks outside rather than following their own inner guidance and truth, this means that they are not being their authentic self and therefore unlikely to be fulfilled and living a life full of joy.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
I have written a book called ‘Free to be me’ where I share my very personal story which emphasises the importance of the three steps in my system: acceptance, belief and choice. Using my story as an example of how I used these steps in my own life allows people to see that they have a choice and that it is okay that change is a process that doesn’t always happen overnight. With my mentoring I have seen people make positive changes that are sustainable with their improved belief systems, self-acceptance and self-belief. I give people hope and demonstrate that change for life is possible, in spite of people thinking it is not.
What are your 6 strategies to help you face your day with exuberance, “Joie De Vivre” and a “ravenous thirst for life”? Can you please give a story or example for each?
I start my day by writing my diary in which I write the day how I want it to unfold, as if it has already happened, this sets a positive intention for each day. Time allowing, I will do a 10–20-minute guided meditation about mindfulness. I also have my own personal mantra which helps me to stay positive and joyful. I also find joy in regular exercise, healthy eating and helping people.
Do you have any favourite books, podcasts, or resources that most inspired you to live with a thirst for life?
I have read many books, but in the last few years I have followed Dr Joe Dispenza, Greg Braydon and Professor Bruce Lipton. I also listen to Gabor Mate and Dr Van der Kolk who continue to inspire me to live a joyful life.
Can you please give us your favourite “Life Lesson Quote” that relates to having a Joie De Vivre? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?
Simply ‘You never know what’s around the corner’ as we just don’t. If we expect positive surprises that will fill us with joy this is very powerful, and we can then become more excited about life.
Are you working on any exciting new projects now? How do you think that will help people?
Having successfully delivered my one-day workshop, I am about to launch my two-day workshop, which delves deeper into people’s mindsets and gives them more tools to create the change they desire in life. I am also allowing more time for one to one mentoring sessions and have started to do this over skype.
You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂
That the truth heals. A movement that welcomes, embraces and advocates truth. When people are able to overcome stigma, taboo and shame, they find it easier to speak to people that they can trust, starting their healing journey. Knowing and accepting my truth has enabled me to heal and allows me to live a life of authenticity, joy and purpose.
