It’s Time To Stop Putting Our Lives On Hold

“I’ll do it when I lose another 10 pounds.”

I work in marketing, and one of my biggest obstacles is getting women to be more visible in front of their audiences. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard an excuse along the lines of “I’ll do it when I lose another 10 pounds,” for not getting in front of the camera. It breaks my heart. Not just from a business standpoint – although that’s incredibly challenging – but from a life standpoint. How much are we women missing out on life because we don’t feel thin enough, smart enough, fun enough…worthy enough?

Because that’s what it is, right? Not feeling worthy enough or good enough to do the thing, whatever that thing may be.

People Want To Spend Time With You

Whether you’re a mom who hates her beach body or someone struggling with a photoshoot for their business, it’s so easy to get wrapped up in how you wish you looked. But here’s the thing: People want to spend time with you, as you are right now.

Sure, there are trolls online, but if they choose to write crappy comments in your Instagram feed, block ‘em and delete their comment. It says way more about who they are as a person than it could ever say about you.

And that girl at the pool strutting around in her Size 2 bikini? She doesn’t even know you. Her being there is in no way an accusation or a criticism of your shape or size. Enjoy your time with your kids. Trust me, the years fly by, and before you know it, you’re the mother of a high schooler who only has a few free summers left before heading off to college and the real world.

Authenticity Is Queen

We connect with friends, clients, colleagues, and strangers via social media daily. If you use social media for your business, it’s key to present yourself authentically. But even if you don’t use it for work, social media should be an example of who you are, as you are now. What would it be like for one of your internet friends to meet you in real life? Would they recognize you?

One of the best ways to increase your self-confidence is by being accepted for who you truly are. In the age of social media, authenticity is hard to find. Just imagine how awesome it will feel if you strut your stuff AND be accepted for the incredible goddess you are.

Never Underestimate How Amazing You Can Feel

Good photographers know how to bring out your inner spark and help you feel relaxed. Great photographers make you feel like a million bucks even if you haven’t lost all the weight you wish you had beforehand. Photoshoots are incredibly affirming, and it’s a rush to have someone capture you on film in a space that’s comfortable for you. I’ve gone on to use photos from truly amazing shoots for work and personal use. I can’t tell you how great it is to have them, to look back on years later to see how much I’ve grown.

You won’t get today back. Please, please don’t put off having fun, building your dreams, or enjoying your time with your family because you feel like you’re too heavy. You are beautiful, loved, and worthy.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
