Comparison is the thief of joy

Big profits seeking to destroy

Our brains

Driving us insane

At all costs

While these companies high-five and jerk off

Losing our power of choice

Drowning our voice

Into the next likes, or 10

Basing our happiness off getting them

Getting pulled in so many directions

We’re dangling by strings controlled without our own introspection

Into the next clickbait

When will we demand SocialMediaGate?

Too numb to hate

Drones

Swimming in depression, anxiety, fear, served up on a plate

Growing too big on our platforms

To walk away from this form

Shit well we better not hate

It’s the only way we even freaking communicate

It’s a catch 22 right? We want to have presence

And not alienate

Yet how can we be be humanly present?

When staring non-stop at our robot control

Doing what we are told

We alienate ourselves

By living in hell

In a box of screens and apps

Time we will never get back

If it’s not posted it might not have even have happened did it?

If a tree falls in the woods and no-one is there does it make a noise?

If we look at a person and smile is it a dream if not recorded on our toys?

How can we even tell?

Face it Facebook

We are getting unwell

No pointing fingers or calling the kettle black

We all have a choice. We can promise to take back

Our power of choice

And use our voice

Taking a stand

Oh but wait! Isn’t Instagram where I can develop my brand?

I’m getting confused

I’m unclear what to do

I say it gets worse

If I’m a betting fool

I don’t know what to do

What’s the rule? Of thumb?

Post 10 selfies?

Is setting a timer for five dumb?

Then I’ll be done?

Here’s my food

Here’s my drink

5 isn’t too bad- I think?

Ohhhhh! Only 5 minutes?

I thought you meant hours!

Cause that went by so fast!

It’s insane the power

That social media pull has

Isolation at it’s worst

We are dying inside

Mind numbing heroin

Addictive like crack

Validating false self-esteem?

Feeding THOTs on Snap

I think I’ll stop

After one more story

One more read

Kardashian glory

Well I don’t look like her

So now I feel like shit

But let me scroll anyway

Take a few more hits

Of this social media bubble

Real or not

It’s what we got

Helping me avoid the whole lot

Of people in real life

They all look so pretty online

I’m numbing out in strife

I need to be a quitter

But let me quickly check twitter

I need to walk away

I promise! I will I say

Later

Tomorrow

Someday

Over the rainbow

Where these rabbit holes don’t exist

Only sun and nature and breeze persist

It’s called outside

Something we should try

Grab my hand let’s survive

Walk together backing up Thrive

Global and see the world

At least it’s an idea we can strive

To go for

As we create goals

Absence of trolls

No More

Let’s not look to destroy

Comparison is the thief of joy
