Inside Influence: One On One With Jess Hilarious

I spoke to the social media influencer and comedian Jess Hilarious about her best tips

The Thrive Global Community welcomes voices from many spheres on our open platform. We publish pieces as written by outside contributors with a wide range of opinions, which don’t necessarily reflect our own. Community stories are not commissioned by our editorial team and must meet our guidelines prior to being published.

Adam: What is something about you that the many people who follow you don’t know?

Jess: One thing is that I am beyond dedicated to my God. I rely heavily on his word daily. If you don’t know yet God Rocks!

Adam: How did you become an influencer? What’s the inside story?

Jess: I just started putting videos out and waiting for the love. Story is I wanted to be my own BOSS!

Adam: What advice do you have for those interested in working with influencers? How do you decide who to work with?

Jess: Honestly, I try not to work with any other influencers. That’s no disrespect; I find it very hard to be original these days which is why I stay to myself and produce my own content without the help of others or collaborations.

Adam: What advice do you have for those interested in becoming influencers?

Jess: Listen and listen carefully. Even read between the lines. The need for originality is at an all-time high. These days there are more trend followers than trend setters. Be yourself and stand out. Do the unthinkable… sometimes that even means don’t think, just do.

Adam: What is the biggest misconception about the influencer world and life as an influencer?

Jess: “We have it all figured out” We’re not perfect. A lot of people have tried to make me a role model for their children. That, I am not. I curse heavily, I talk about sex and I talk about people. I should not be a role model for YOUR child; YOU should be a role model for your child.

Adam: What has being an influencer taught you about branding and marketing?

Jess: REPETITION & REPUTATION. When you gain the attention of millions and millions of people it’s easy to persuade and influence them; I use that advantage for my greater good; constantly letting them know who I am, Comedian Jess Hilarious. Be careful to not abuse your power though.

Adam: What are your hobbies and how have they shaped you?

Jess: In the beginning I considered making videos hobby, but I have grown to be so much more than that, just a girl who made videos. Look at me now!

Adam: Who have been the biggest influencers in your life and how do you pay it forward?

Jess: Martin Lawrence & Chris Tucker! I feel as if I am the female version of them both. Not to mention I look exactly like Chris Tucker. Lol

I have been able to emulate their talent of making the people laugh! I am proud to have been able to grow up and watch comedic geniuses.
