Since, the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Cairo, we have learned the meaning of just showing up for the job! Showing up for representation. Being vigilant and coming in for work, even with having a bad start. Even if it means one will loose.
For Cameroonian fans in Cairo, Egypt, they served as the dynamic cheer squad. That group at the company workplace, who is always in our corner to cheer us on. And they are there with us, even it we don’t expect them to be. So, on that final game, in their struggles against Nigeria, the Cameroonian lions fought in the way that lions do. They did not win this battle. Nevertheless, they fought. . . like lions. Sometimes you don’t win, even if you fought the good fight. You lost that battle. Alright. But, there another battle won. Did they not show up to represent one land of the lions? Even in the midst of missing an opportunity to host the company party, they still showed up for the social! They even won some of the company games! Their time ended prior to the grand party of them all-the party of executives. And afterwards, they returned back to their nation as heroes. Yet, the party had just begun.
With all the media hype centered around #AFCON2019, #TotalAfcon2019, there was another company party happening. A different party, indeed. For this company, volleyball took precedence. The 2019 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championships was happening in Cairo, Egypt. It had happened, and from July 7-15, 2019, it had happened in Cairo. This time, it was the lionesses, who showed up. The volleyball team of Cameroonian lionesses not only showed up, but defended their title, as CHAMPIONS!
After defeating the Kenyan women’s volleyball team in the semi-finals, the Cameroonian lionesses were set up to the finals! They battled, and their defense was victorious!
Roar mighty lionesses! Roar!
Hearing about the presence of the Cameroonian lionesses, the Cameroonian community was there! Shouting, supporting, and rooting on as one’s cheer squad could do!
The victory and success of the Cameroonian women’s national volleyball team is a major lesson on the wonders that can happen, when one presents themselves for another time! Showing up as the cheer squad cheers on. It truly is an important lesson! Let’s rewind back, shall we?
The lions arrived for the African Cup of Nations 2019. Let’s not forget that Cameroon lost the opportunity to host this prestigious championship. They came to Cairo to represent their nation, as best as they could. And, then, they were out! Ok. So, we could have interpreted this as a defeat. Right? Cameroonian fans could have wallowed in sadness out of the pain of having been so close. That happens. Its going to hurt when things do not go our way at the party. It’s painful to know that coming to the company social hour, didn’t result in moving on to the next phase. It doesn’t matter that you worked hard during the party; to socialize, engage with other employees, and make a good impression. Hoping that the higher ups would notice you.
You thought that you socialized your best, and outwitted your opponents. After all, they too, were at the party, as well. Don’t forget about your supportive network-the cheer squad who defends your place in the company. That’s what happened for the Cameroonian lions. Nevertheless, by representing and participating at the party, they were still victorious!
We could interpret the loss of the Cameroonian national men’s team as a defeat. Or, could we see them laying a foundation for the lionesses’ championship, repeat?
The royal lionesses of Cameroon’s national volleyball team, are the living proof of what happens when you continue to push forward after the losses. And, the return of their fans is a living testimony to the strength (and perseverance) of the Cameroonian people. It’s phenomenal to hear, and understand that sometimes you have to move to another company in order to win.
Holding up the champion’s trophy, the Cameroonian lionesses defended their title-proving that it pays to represent! And represent, well. It is one of the highlights of having two athletic championships take place, at once. Looking on the Twitter conversations of #AFCON 2019, taunts were observed against the Cameroonian Men’s National Football team. There were fans of the opposing team who mocked Cameroon. Bragging that their team had sent the lion home “packing.”
A proper response??
Silly bird. . .don’t you know lionesses do the hunting?
