I Stopped Feeling So Stressed When I Found Spirituality

I used to have a low level of anxiety at all times. I’m naturally somewhat of a worry-wort, so if there was a moment I wasn’t worrying, I’d find something to be upset about. Being stressed out was my baseline; it was what I knew.

The constant stress, however, began taking a toll on my body. By the time I was 23, I’d developed severe digestive issues and was losing hair. It was a wake up call for me. I knew I needed to address my mental state before I further deteriorated my health.

So, as one does, I turned to the Internet. I Googled questions like, “How can I reduce stress?” and “How do I stop worrying?” I noticed my search results often included articles about meditation, mindfulness, and spirituality. I was intrigued.

Eager to feel better, I started meditating every morning. I began reading spiritual texts like The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, The Four Agreements, and The Universe Has Your Back. In reading these books and meditating daily, my world began to expand. I realized there was another way to live that entailed feeling happy, peaceful, and free. I never wanted to go back to my old life.

In getting acquainted with my spirituality, my life has improved radically. Over time, I’ve come to believe fully and truly that I am always being guided. This realization has changed my day-to-day experience and fills me with peace.

I can surrender my worries. I don’t have to do it alone.

Last month, I had to present in an important meeting at work. Before I was about to speak, I began feeling super nervous. My palms were sweating; my legs shaky. I was certain I was going to say something stupid.

Then, I remembered that the support of the Universe is always available to me. This was a perfect opportunity to practice my faith. I took a deep breath and tuned in. I began feeling the support of the Universe. A warmth filled my chest and my body felt lighter. I thought to myself, “How could I ever fail? I’m being guided right now.”

Within a few minutes, my nerves melted away. As I started to speak, I almost felt like I was watching myself from above. I spoke clearly and with confidence. I knew Spirit had guided me through the entire experience and was saying, “See? You can do anything. I’m always right here with you.”

Learning to call upon the Universe for support has given me so much confidence. I have faith that no matter what I’m doing, I’m surrounded by the love and support of the Universe. I’m always going to be okay.

When I’m anxious or afraid, I know I have a powerful, trusted confidante to call upon any time I need. The spiritual text, A Course In Miracles, describes it perfectly, “If you knew who walks beside you on the path that you have chosen, fear would be impossible.”
