How Writing Enhances Our Health

For the last few decades, there have been increased calls for people to embrace healthier lifestyles due to the fact that numerous studies carried out in the past have proved that the kind of lives that we live have a great impact to our lives. Indeed, it is a known fact that those who eat unhealthy meals are the ones who are at a high risk of been diagnosed with different lifestyle disease.

Even though various ways to enhance living a healthy lifestyle have been discussed in great detail in the past, it can be noted that writing has been overlooked despite the fact that the exercise can greatly enhance social, physical, and mental health.

Physical Health 

In view of the physical health, studies have shown that writing helps enhance sleeping habits, minimizes the time it takes for one to recover from some illness, and improves immune function. Indeed, numerous studies carried out in different settings have concurred that writing can be of great benefit to different people who have been diagnosed with various medical issues specifically those related to stress and blood pressure.

Mental Health 

When it comes to mental health, been involved in writing can without a doubt assist people to have a better understanding of their lives and at the same time to have a better understanding of their feelings as well as emotions. The reason why that is the case is that through writing, one gets to agree to take in past realities and by doing that, setting goals for the future and pursuing them effectively becomes a reality.

Social Health 

As far as the impacts of writing to social health are concerned, it can be pointed out that writing provides people with the opportunity to share various life experiences to their readers. By sharing these experiences, people tend to get the bad memories of their experiences out of their minds and are no longer required to have these negative thoughts in their minds. Thus, through expressive writing, people are able to disclose to others about their feelings and from the disclosure, they are likely to receive get beneficial advice from the people on how to address the issues that they might be facing.

However, it is important to point out that the author is no way proposing that writing exercise should be substituted with seeking expert medical advice and sticking to it when faced with various health issues. Rather, what the author is suggesting is that writing can be used together with other medical intervention in order to enhance the chances of one enhancing his/her wellbeing.
