If you have written a book and would like to publish it, in this article you will find some useful tips on how to find the perfect publisher.

Putting an end to a story is always an extraordinary experience. From the moment your novel is finished and is ready to be proposed to a publishing house, a new job begins, completely different from what you have done up to that moment, but equally important: the search for the publisher. If you would like to find the right publishing house for you but you don’t know where to start your search, you are in the right place; in this article we will reveal some useful tricks to find the one that’s right for you.

Publishing a book: how to find the right publishing house

If you are a writer and have just finished writing your book, you will probably be looking for one or more publishing houses to propose the manuscript to. Among the many possibilities, choosing the one that’s right for you can be complicated, which is why Manhattan Book Group have decided to draw up a list of tips for you, useful for finding the right publishing house.

Do research online

The first way to find publishers that are right for you is to search online. Thanks to technology, in fact, we can have an entire world available simply by typing what we need in the search bar.

Searching for publishing houses online you will be able to find the different websites and get to know all the information you need: from the method of sending manuscripts, to the accepted genres, up to the method of distribution of the novels.

Make sure they are interested in the genre of your novel

A very important aspect to take into account when looking for the right publisher is the genre of the novel. The publishing houses, in fact, do not always take into account all literary genres and, before submitting a manuscript, you must ensure that the latter is owned by one of the sought literary genres from publisher to whom you are sending your proposal.

Compare yourself with other authors

Comparison is always very useful in all fields. If you are part of groups on Facebook or other communities, or you know other writers, our advice is to talk to them, to get a direct opinion and more information on the publishing house you are interested in.

Attend fairs

A useful method for discovering publishing houses and approaching publishers, touching their work first hand, is certainly to participate in book fairs. In this way you will be able to have a clearer picture of the publishing house you are proposing to, interacting with the people who work there and leafing through the books they have published.

Buy a book from the publishing house you want to propose to

As we have already mentioned in the previous point, touching the work done by the publisher to which you want to propose yourself is really very important. For this it is useful to buy at least one book published by the publishing house in which you are interested, in order to see with your own eyes how the latter takes care of the details of the publication (from the cover to the layout) and of the editing of the novel. In short, buying a novel from the publishing house to which you want to propose can be useful to get to know the latter to the fullest.
