My happy place is my bed and my dog.

At times it can seem as an unattainable destination to arrive at, however the direction to achieve a work-life balance by no means has to be a drastic one. Small impactful decisions can make the greatest difference.

My Work-life Balance Curation

Throughout my career, I have been able to curate a few tricks to more closely attain that work-life balance we’re all searching for in an often stressful world.

No Notification Zone

I have zero notifications on my phone. I check my email and Instagram intentionally vs. allowing the notifications to attack at bad timing, throughout the day.

Before meetings are added to my calendar, I block out time for workouts each week. I make the workout commitment with my friend and fellow businesswoman, Cronja, as we also share offices together. This helps me to feel accountable and not cancel the day of.

Your Phone is Not Your Sleeping Partner

I do not sleep next to my phone. I bought a Google speaker, that I have next to my bed instead, which functions as a substitute to my phone. I use Google speaker to set my alarm, check the weather, receive a summary of the news, play music. It is very liberating to talk to a device, rather than having to look at a screen.

Bedtime Ritual

I’ve implemented a bedtime ritual to prepare my mind for bed. It is my non-negotiable way of easing into a restful night.

  1. I take Defense Drops from Nue Co every night.

  2. I wash my face and moisturize gently with Tata Harper skincare products, which all have essential oils.

  3. I have a scented candle from Otherland, next to my bed, that I light each evening, along with Palo Santo. These two scents are now so strongly associated with going to bed, therefore immediately put my body and mind in a relaxed state.

  4. I spray Nue Co’s Lavender and Arnica Oil Infused Magnesium Body Spray to unknot tension and to ease stress.

  5. This is followed by a fifteen-minute Headspace sleep meditation.

  6. After my meditation, my routine is finished- I blow out the candle and fall asleep.

From implementing these small tricks into my daily life, I am more energized and happier. With keeping myself aligned and in a positive state, I am less receptive to negative stress and less worked up over small things. I am more clear-headed and rational when it comes to problem solving- a strong suit I am able to utilize in my career, within my agency.
