How to breathe you back to Life.

And feel alive again.

Life wants you to breathe.

Because it is your breath that keeps you alive. And it is your breath that makes you come alive.

Because when you remember to breathe, you feel it too. Your breath. Your presence. The Presence of You.

Because when you breathe, you return here too.

From the thoughts.

The thoughts that keep you feeling anxious and overwhelmed, depressed and alone.

Because when you are in a thought, you are in a thought.

In a thought that keeps you back there.

Tied to the past.

Or, in a thought that keep you over there.

Tied to the future.

Either way, you are not here.

Because you are in a thought.

When you return to your breath, you return here.

Who you are.

Because you are not a thought.

When you return to your breath, you return to the present.

Your present.

Because it is a gift to be alive.

When my father died, he was still able to give me a gift through his death.

The Gift of the Understanding.

The gift of my own understanding.

To understand how I can live in the sadness.

Or, feel the sadness and learn what to do when those thoughts arrive that make me sad.

Because it was the thought of thinking I could have done more that was making me sad.

It was the thought of thinking I should have done more that was tearing my heart apart.

And once I decided that I didn’t want to be sad every time I rememebered my dad, I chose to do something about it.

Because my mind could do this too.

Because my mind could also receive.

Receive the Understanding.

Because the one thing I know is that my dad would never want me to be hurting like this.

Because the one thing all parents want for their children is for them to be happy.

And my dad was happy.

He was innocent and sweet. Gentle and kind. Patient. And a patient of cancer too.

So now whenever I start to miss my dad, I allow the feelings to arrive.

But I also allow the Understanding to arrive too.

By returning to my breath.

So I can return too.

Return to the present.

My own presence too.

Because when I am here, I feel his presence.

Because I am no longer in a thought.

So I can see his smiley face.

I can hear the way he used to say my name.

And I can feel his love too.

Because when I am breathing, I am no longer thinking.

When I am breathing, I am here.

And I feel alive too.

Alive in my heart, alive in my mind.

So I can live my life happy.

Happy knowing my dad would be happy too.

Life wants you to breathe.

So you can breathe you back to Life too.

So you can live in the Understanding.

The Understanding of how your breath is always here.

Supporting you too.

To return you to you.

So you can be happy too.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
