Isn’t it fun to be young. It is that period in life when one has the least responsibility. But did you know that young people, being carefree and untroubled as they seem , experience the most stress? The Nightline Association conducted a recent survey which indicated that 65% of the student populace feels stressed. It’s not unusual to see students juggling their studies with part-time jobs. Other than that, there are assignments to worry about. It can cause significant stress to concern oneself about the future or how it is to make the next step. Trying to manage all these and more can truly be overwhelming.

You know how it goes, and you might be going through the same dilemma. Be wary of worrying or working too much because it can lead to a dreadful “burnout”. A burnout is a condition that takes place when you have nothing more to give- no energy to expend- and everything turns bleak.

You might be feeling down at this point and it may be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But take heart because even though you’re busy-buzzy and stressed in school, it is possible to reduce your qualms and anxieties. Yes, you can beat stress in school, and the following tips can guide you.

Stick to a healthy diet consisting of a variety of foods. As much as you can, eat foods that contain fresh ingredients. Consuming lots of fruits is particularly important. Juices that are rich in Vitamin C, such as grapefruit or orange juice help boost your immune system and fight against stress. Grabbing a pizza or microwaving ready meals may just be way too convenient, but you can try to cook from scratch which is therapeutic and healthier as well.

Exercise regularly. You can incorporate doing a sport for one day in your weekly schedule. Physical activity allows your body to release endorphins, also known as “feel-good” hormones. If you can, try to engage in intensive work outs. Otherwise, you can do a walking exercise for 30 minutes a day. It has been likewise known to reduce stress. Then again, rarely can you find individuals who have a genuine penchant for exercise. If you don’t particularly like to exert effort for heavy physical activity, hang in there. You’ll feel its amazing benefits afterwards soon. How about joining up in a sports club? It is an effective way to alleviate stress especially as you interact and connect with other people. It’s a fantastic way to improve your mood at the same time. Don’t forget to do yoga, too- it’ll help to relax your mind and muscles.

Add a meditation routine in your schedule. You can do a simple meditation technique for 10 minutes a day where all you have to do is sit quietly for the time duration. It is effectual for relieving stress. Breathing techniques that go with meditation can induce your mind to go into a more placid state as it causes oxygen to surge into your bloodstream, consequently calming you down and mitigating stress.

Habitually take some time off, like going on frequent breaks. You can de-stress by taking short breaks from work. But remember that longer breaks are necessary. A weekend off can help you relax. Take time to have fun and leave your worries about school or work in the meantime. It will be refreshing, causing you to be in tip-top shape when you go back to your academic responsibilities.

Keep a pet. Research has shown that people who spend time with animals are healthy. Try patting a dog for a few minutes. You’ll feel good and reduce your stress because such an activity releases hormones in your body that make you feel thus. But since most uni halls don’t allow their residents to keep pets, you can instead spend time with other friends or family members who do. No commitments in getting the love, but you’ll be having a worthwhile time with these splendid 4-legged creatures.

Get enough sleep and limit your computer time. The best antidote to stress is to get enough sleep. Even if you give yourself 20-minute naps, you’ll be boosting your productivity. Cyber sociability is always engaging, but consider that too much of it can cause more stress. You’ll end up neglecting your work or assignments until they horribly go out of hand!

Learn from your mistakes- be positive and proactive about them. It can be discouraging to miss a deadline, but tell yourself it’s not the end of the world. The next time around, you should learn to plan ahead. Although the situation seems bad, look at the positive side. You’ll realize that there is always something worth learning from your mistakes.

Don’t take life too seriously- laugh. Laughter truly is the best medicine, and you can never have too much of it. A “hearty” laugh actually increases the oxygen and blood flow in your system, which in turn, instantly reduces stress. Life is better and easier if you don’t take it too seriously. Make time for your wants and needs and take care of yourself. Log out of Facebook and Twitter and live life with gusto and energy. As a student, be aware of the fact that you can achieve a great deal in your academic and career undertakings without going through unbearable stress.
