Our CEO Masterclass gives clear guidance on how to become a successful and inspiring CEO. It addresses the issues CEOs face regarding business performance, as well as their own personal performance and leadership. But a common challenge is overworking and stress.

Previously, we discussed the 4 Day Working Week which comes with many benefits but also challenges. However, I think this is the new way forward to maximise productivity whilst also maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Having worked with hundreds of CEOs for over 30 years, I’ve seen the effects of pressure on CEOs’ health. What is little known, is that 60% of CEOs suffer health problems, with strokes a common factor. These strokes arise from the aggregated pressure of the job. The CEO role should really come with a health warning.

But how do you avoid a CEO health warning?

Frequently, the CEOs I’ve worked with have been working at over-capacity. Some CEOs are working at 120% of their capacity, which means they work into the evenings and at weekends, are often frustrated and irritated by the toll of the workload.

Some CEOs are even working at 140% of their capacity. At that stage they are emotionally drained and highly stressed. They are either close to, or at burnout. A key thing  we focus on at Xinfu is helping CEOs manage imbalances, and transition from working at over-capacity, back to 80% capacity, 100% of the time. We call this The Capacity Curve.

This helps  CEOs to re-energise, and be in a much better physical and mental place to drive the company forward.

CEO health is vital for a successful business and balanced life. After they finish their roles many CEOs regret the excessive time spent at work ahead of time for themselves, family and friends. This is why gauging where you are on the capacity curve, and taking the necessary steps to redress excess is an essential step.
