You may may be reading this wondering how food relates to your chakras. Heck, you might even be reading this wondering, what is a chakra? As a Registered Dietitian and spiritual life coach I became extremely interested in this connection of nutrition to energy after working with clients I realized that those who were also focusing on eating nourishing foods had more energy, they were vibrant, in-flow and they seemed to have spiritual breakthroughs more rapidly. Curious, I started to research energy healing and its connection to nutrition. I knew that fueling our bodies with the right nutrients allowed us to produce more energy but what I didn’t expect was the impact on the flow of energy through our bodies. I sit here in a crowded coffee shop excited to share with you the science and the spiritual perspectives of how nutrition can raise our vibration and improve our energy flow.
Chakras are energetic points within the body that can be tapped into to raise our vibration, optimize health and step into divine expression. Each of the seven energy centers lies on the spinal cord at the junction of key arteries and nerve centers.
Energy healers have established that when our chakras are in balance and open our energy can easily flow through us. There are no blocks, therefore, we are able to vibrate at a higher frequency, release limiting thought patterns, heal and tap into our highest potential. Recently, alternative medicine IBS, thyroid health and depression.
You may already be making the connections of how nutrition can play a role with each of these energy centers or you’re thinking “Ok lady, tell me what blueberries have to do with all this.” Hold tight, we’ll get there but first I believe it’s important for you to understand what I mean when I say “high vibe” or “raise your vibration”. Everything is energy. Our thoughts, the device you’re reading this on and the place your feet are currently planted all are made up of 99.9999% energy and .00001% matter. Energy is swirling around you at all times.v It’s shifting your reality and it’s what allows you to manifest the things you desire. If you’re a highly sensitive being you may feel the vibes of the cranky cashier at the grocery store or maybe you’re drawn to your fave workout instructor because you know the trainers energy is always on point. Ideally, you want to be high vibe and healing your chakras allows you to be just that.
We can think of food’s impact on our vibration in terms of energy. Each of our cells need key nutrients, fuel and fluids to operate at an optimal level. This means when you’re getting the nutrients your body needs your cells are capable of generating more energy and vibrating at an optimal frequency. Think about the times when you’ve been eating really well focusing on vegetables & fruits, lean proteins, healthy fats and taking your supplements. You likely felt vibrant, energized and in alignment.
What I found fascinating was how much more there was to nutrition & energy beyond calories and hydration Eating the colors of the phytonutrient rainbow can assist in re-balancing chakras and this isn’t just some woo woo spiritual stuff.
Each chakra has a corresponding color and health system. When these colors are compared to the benefits of specific phytonutrient colors we see that, for the most part, they align with the associated health system. For example: blueberries and other deep purple and blue fruits or vegetables help with brain function, preventing alzheimer’s and decreasing inflammation– all which are things that if out of alignment could block the energy flow in the third eye chakra.
As you read through the nutrition and chakra guide below, consider if any of your energy centers is out of balance. If you find that maybe your solar plexus is out of whack, I would encourage you to add a little more of the yellow foods into your diet to help rebalance this energy center. Whether you know which chakras are out of balance or not I would highly encourage you to taste the rainbow everyday — no, unfortunately, we’re not talking Skittles– try to get at least one serving of each color of vegetables and fruits listed below every single day.
This biggest advice I can give you after all of this is not to over-complicate it. Start paying attention to what you’re eating. Are your meals colorful? Are carrots the only vegetable you consume? Could you sneak in some spinach to your morning smoothie or add a handful of blueberries to your salad? If you notice your meals are a little bland when it comes to color, start adding in one color each day until you’re eating the rainbow every single day. I guarantee you’ll find yourself feeling more vibrant.
