What does your company do?

At Prime Surgicare we change lives by helping people lose significant weight with bariatric surgery and healthy living strategies. We also perform minimally invasive surgery for hernia repair and gallbladder disease.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

I’ve always thought of myself as a business owner and always been interested in the business of medicine. I was involved in the promotion of my father’s private practice many years ago and saw how goodwill was built along with strategic partnerships. Although my dad pursued more of the academic line, I was inspired to follow the private practice track.

What inspired you to start your business?

After I worked for a multi-specialty practice for 3 years I could not wait to determine my own future and test out my practice style and ideas.  I needed to own and operate my own practice to expose myself fully to the business side of medicine and see if I could thrive. I was inspired by my yearning for independence and self-actualization.

Why did you choose this career path?

I was initially following a track to become a surgeon like my father when I became intrigued by the new technology that was disrupting all of surgery. That was how I decided to specialize in laparoscopic surgery and specifically bariatric (weight loss) surgery, where I found laparoscopic surgery to be most impactful.

What was a major turning point in your professional journey?

A major turning point for me came when I abandoned my surgery training in the UK to come to the US to start general surgery training again. I felt there was more opportunity here in the US for my path to be determined by my own ability and performance. It meant being further away from my siblings and family, but my career was my main focus at the time.
