What hair colors are you rocking this year?

Whether it is your first time to dye your hair or you are a seasoned vet, you can work with a hair colorist to help you try out a unique hair dye this year. And if you are looking for a salon in Manhattan, you are going to want to work with a place with world-class stylists.

As you know, there are quite many exciting hair color ideas to choose from whether you still want to retain your natural looks or you want to go the full way and have an extreme hair dye.

How to Choose a Hair Color

A good color hairstyle should help you look younger and vibrant. Wrong hair colors can be disastrous to your look, making you look older and dull. The good thing is that a professional hair colorist can guide on what hair dye color is acceptable and complements your natural looks. Additionally, you can also tell by the color of your veins under natural light. Also, your make-up can give a good indication of your skin-tone.

You can ask your hair stylist or hair colorist to give you various color suggestions; then you can choose one to match your unique style. Your hair colorist will suggest to you various hair tones by studying your skin tone, your age and the color of your eyes.

Skin Tone and Hair Color

When it comes to hair colors, your skin tone plays a big part in determining whether a particular hair dye will look good on you or not depending on whether you have a cool or warm skin tone. It is essential to know what pigments are under your skin tone. Individuals with natural black or brown hair usually have warm earthy undertones like gold, brown, orange or orange-based red in their skin. For them, warmer hair colors like honey browns or golden blondes complement their warm undertones.

On the other hand, blonde-haired individuals have cool-skin tones that are usually green, pink, blue or blue-based red. If you have are such an individual, then cooler hair dyes like black, auburn brown and ash blonde should enhance your cooler-toned skins looks.

Eye Color and Hair Color

When it comes to the colors of your eyes, if you want to be precise, then you can use a hair and eye color chart. But generally speaking, green eyes look stunning in warm reds, intense gold, and golden blonde shades. If you have blue eyes consider cool blondes, light blondes or natural blondes. Individuals with brown eyes look good in medium browns and light browns. Finally, if you have hazel eyes, then light reds and light browns are your preferred colors.

Extreme Hair Colors

Remember that you can do extreme hair dyes whether you have a cool or warm skin tone by still observing your skin hue. Worth noting is that extreme colors are not really recommended for aging clients because they tend to highlight their skin wrinkles more.

Shadow Hair

If low-maintenance is what you are looking for this season, then you are better off with shadow-toning. You can have an easier transition to a more natural look with shadow-hair. According to Nikki Ferrara, an NYC Colorist “’Shadow hair’ is a new hair-color trend that mimics the ombré of yesteryear.” You will, therefore, love shadow-hair if you are okay with highlights in your natural- hair.

Shadow-hair creates natural-looking shadows in your natural hair by toning it, in turn creating a stunning color depth. You start by choosing a gloss or toner that is the same shade as your natural hair, either lighter or a bit deeper.

The good thing with shadow-toning is that it can take 4-6 months without being retouched.
