The Golden Retriever is one of the most good-natured and faithful dogs that we can find, which has made it one of the most loved large dog breeds by families. Those who live with the Golden Retriever allude to the opportunity to call it the “canine golden treasure.” On his own merits, from the moment he arrives, he becomes the real “King” of the house. An ideal dog for a multitude of profiles of people, great for accompaniment. Not surprisingly, it is considered the family dog   par excellence, since it has a versatility that allows it to have something to offer to each and every one of those around it. Its docile and intelligent character, but above all its kindness and its very friendly way of being, make this dog one of the most faithful. Do you want to know more about him? Always eager to please their master and with almost no behavioral problems, little more can be asked of these funny, loyal and kind dogs

Origin of the Golden Dog (Golden Retriever)

The Golden Retriever, which is also known as the Golden Retriever, has its roots in the United Kingdom and, more specifically, in the Highlands of Scotland. Around 1850, this breed, whose specimens are still considered excellent for hunting work today, was born from a series of hunting dogs only, leaving aside the false legend that came to say that it came from sheepdogs that they were bought from a Russian circus.

Written records of the first crosses that would lead to the Golden Retriever dating from between 1835 and 1890 and have such strain originated from a Perdiguero Dorado responding to the name of Nous, which was purchased from a cobbler in Brighton, and of a dog named Belle that belonged to the now extinct breed of Tweed Water Spaniel.

Later, other lineages were added to achieve the Golden Retriever as we know it today. Among them are the Saint John’s Water Dog, the Bloodhound and the Irish setter.

The reason that led to the creation of the Golden Retriever is eminently practical, since between the 18th and 19th centuries the hunting of birds experienced a great boom among the aristocracy and the Scottish wealthy class. The fact that the terrain was swampy and with a large number of streams, motivated that many prey were lost, because the Pointer and the rest of hunting dogs used at that time were not able to collect them properly in the water .

With the Golden Retriever came an extraordinary retriever dog, with a soft mouth (which would prevent it from damaging the piece when it was picked up), resistant, strong and tremendously suitable on land and in water. The official recognition of the breed by the Kennel Club of the United Kingdom occurred in 1903, not recording its acceptance in the United States until fifteen years later. Today it is one of the most popular breeds in the world, delighting as a pet in millions of homes.

Retriever temperament

Smart and full of energy. So are the Golden Retrievers. Impressively loyal dogs to their adopted family, they are affectionate and sweet towards humans.. There are those who classify these dogs as a bit “intense”, since they tend to play without rest, especially when young. If your lifestyle is sedentary, we anticipate that this breed is not made for you, since such an energetic dog needs constant physical and mental stimulation. You will see him greatly enjoy jumping, running, walking and getting in the water or in the mud.
