Like any parent, Sydney mum of 2, Sofia Potente was overjoyed when she found out she was pregnant with her second son Isaac. But when he was born with severe gastroesophageal reflux, the challenge of managing his condition began.

“Every mum just wants their baby to be healthy. No matter what we did, Isaac screamed around the clock in pain. The first year of his life was a cycle of medication, hospital and doctor visits. Nothing we tried worked – we ended up on a waiting list for stomach surgery” said Sofia.

Desperate to avoid surgery, the family turned to dietary changes and natural remedies to ease her son’s pain.

Sofia also removed chemicals from her home to create a healthier environment for her son. Working with a doctor, within months Isaac was medication free and his condition dramatically improved.

“I know the feeling of helplessness searching for answers. There’s nothing more frustrating than wanting to help your child but nothing working. But I want to tell others there’s hope.”

As a public health researcher and educator, Sofia has since opened a thriving wellness business to help spread her message of healthy, natural living.

“If you are struggling with health challenges, I want to encourage you to stay hopeful. Keep researching and asking questions, and have an open mind. Find a supportive practitioner that you trust.

It’s up to us to take charge of our own health and become more empowered. So often we assume there is nothing we can do about our health challenges but we have a choice about our nutrition and what we use in our homes” said Sofia.

Sofia now teaches regular wellness classes to help others support their health naturally.
