According to studies, people with stress eat carbs and sugary food to relieve stress, but in return, the cravings worsen the mood. There are many of us who takes the support of food to calm them, to release anxiety and stress. But eating without feeling hungry does relieve stress but triggers an enzyme in our fat cells that results in weight gain or cholesterol issues.

So it is better to eat calming food rather munching crap.

1.    Coconut Water

Soothing, calming, nourishing and satisfying, coconut water is a great way of hydrating the body while releasing stress. It consists of potassium, which helps in combating stress, re-energizes the body, increases oxygen and improves body functioning. It also reduces panic attacks and anxiety.

2.    Citrus Fruits

Fruits like berries, orange, gooseberry are amazing to calm the fire energy and reduce stress as these fruits supplements good amount of Vitamin B6 and C. Berries contain antioxidants and calms the feeling of being hyper. Apart from the citrus fruits, banana and avocados also leave your body stress free. 

3.    Dairy Products 

Dairy products are another great way of reducing stress, and you can drink milk or either eat yogurt to gain that inner calm. Make sure that you don’t eat both the food items together. Milk soothes the body system, satisfies the cravings and releases muscle tension. Try to consume it before bedtime to have a restful sleep. Yogurt is good for health and is the best substitute for ice-creams to relieve stress and satiate cravings.

4.    Nuts

Healthy, tasty and loaded with nutrients, Nuts like Cashew, Almonds, Pistachios, and Walnuts helps reducing mental stress if consumed in the right quantity. You can soak almonds in water for overnight and eat the next day, drink almond milk or eat it raw. Ensure that the nuts are not salted or oil roasted. 

5.    Herbs

Ayurvedic herbs are an amazing way to reduce stress and to fight against many common diseases and other health conditions. 7.    Carrots and Spinach

Veggies like Carrot, Chard, Asparagus, Celery, and Spinach are healthy and full of nutrients that help in reducing stress. Chard consists of magnesium that balances the stress hormone, cortisol in the body. Carrots are crunchy, and munching on crunchy food helps to combat stress.

Ayurvedic Remedies to Combat Stress

  • Take Kava Root as a concentrated extract in the form of a tablet or capsule and relieve anxiety, restlessness, stress, sleeplessness and other related symptoms.
  • Take 600 mg dose of lemon balm for a week and notice improved mood, calmness of the mind, etc. You can also sip lemon balm herbal tea daily.
  • Theanine herbal tree is another remedy to combat stress and to feel calmness.
