Ever felt lost in life and do not have a clear direction? You are definitely not alone.
Or are you at a state where you accept whatever life gives you? Don’t be, the only person that can make a change in your life is YOU.
The key to finding yourself is really about a journey within you to find out what makes you tick, what gives you wonderful and happy emotions. And one of the best way is to really allow yourself to have different experiences in life to find the real YOU.
It is done in a very subconscious way, lots of imagination, creativity and spending a whole lot of private time with a very important person – YOU.
I am going to share 5 very powerful insights that can truly transform your life. And you know what? Being lost is not a bad thing! It’s the subconscious mind telling you…it’s time to grow, do something different and have a positive change.
So, here are the 5 powerful tips,
1. Exploration through writing
My previous article where I shared about the wonders of penning down these 5 broad areas, namely:
- Dreams and Motivations
- Problems and Solutions
- Fictional world/characters
- Wins and Thankfulness
Writing can truly help in finding yourself especially when you read it over and over. It does serve as a simple reminder of who you really are.
Most of the time, we get caught up in our daily lives and just get on by with the usual routine and we can forget who we truly are and what really matters.
Besides penning down all your thoughts and experiences in the 5 broad areas, the next tip is something that can lead to real self-discovery.
2. Spend alone time to know yourself better
Get away from the usual day-in-day-out activities, it is important to spend private time by yourself to have a sense of what matters to you.
Bringing lots of imagination and creativity into this space can truly help in finding yourself.
This is almost like a pilgrimage within you to experience what really makes you happy and what you really enjoy doing.
Recently, I met with a friend who has a very successful career but felt that her work was starting to make her unable to fully devote her time to her kids. Although her boss was very understanding and allowed some form of flexible schedule, but she just didn’t feel right about the situation and didn’t feel at ease. And so, she decided to leave her career and explore what she really wanted to do.
Sometimes, when you feel that your work is not aligned to your values and life, you will lack contentment and happiness and it is time to take action…NEXT…
3. Be brave and step out of your comfort zone
Like the above story, my friend took action and bravely stepped out of her comfort zone to explore different options in life to align herself to the life she really wants. And I truly applaud her bravery because not many people will do that.
Too many people will have that concerns of “What if…”
When I was still having a comfortable corporate career with stable income coming in on a regular basis, that comfort zone was indeed a blessing. However, it didn’t feel right for me to lead that kind of life and so, I left all behind in 2006.
I had the same concerns too when I left, what if I don’t make enough like what my job used to pay me? What if I can’t fulfill the other commitments I have? What if…this…and…that…Well, there are just too many questions that I can’t answer and the only way to find out is to “Just Do It”! Never try, never know…
One thing kept me going…was the dream of living a life of true freedom. So it is important to keep the dreams alive!
4. Reconnect with your dreams
And dare to dream big! This is not just the wishful thinking and dreaming…and not taking any action!
What is it that you really love doing? What was your childhood dreams? And the easiest way to look at it is…what if time and money isn’t an issue, what is that one thing that you would certainly really love to do?
Figure out what you have to do to achieve your dreams and take action!
5. Becoming who you really want to become
Have the faith and trust in yourself of becoming who you really want to become. Sometimes we lose touch with ourselves because of various external factors – busy work schedule, family, relationships, people’s comments, feedback etc.
Remember not to turn your back against yourself because that’s the most important relationship you have in life.
And I hope the simple 5 steps will help you in your self-discovery journey and lead you to the life you truly deserve, desire and dare to achieve!
