I love creating a community of empowered and enlightened women who support and motivate each other. One of the greatest joys I’ve experienced in running Inspirations & Celebrations is connecting with the fans and seeing their love and kindness expressed through their positive comments left on social media. In a world filled with hate speech and online bullying, building a community that focuses on positivity and helps people live an inspired life is my number one priority.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Christina-Lauren Pollack — The Creator, Lifestyle Editor, and Magic Maker behind Inspirations & Celebrations — the upbeat, contemporary digital lifestyle guide for women. Christina-Lauren spoke on a bloggers panel at San Francisco Fashion Week, she’s been featured/quoted on InStyle.com, Shape.com, and other media, and she was a semi-finalist in the 2017 Harper’s Bazaar “Fabulous at Every Age” contest.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! What is your “backstory”?

In 2011, I launched my lifestyle blog-turned-business as a “passion project”. What started out as a part-time creative hobby has since evolved into a growing business I love running. With a background in the creative field (doing graphic design, PR / communications, acting and modeling, and photo shoot styling), my experiences have helped teach me how to run a lifestyle website of this nature.

In high school, I dreamed of starting a lifestyle magazine with my friends. We talked about me being the Editor-in-Chief, and each of them writing articles about everything from beauty to fitness. Naturally, getting a group of teenagers together to start a magazine is virtually impossible. But, with the advent of the internet, social media, and the world of blogging — fast forward 15 years, when my teenage dream became my reality.

As a result of working hard for the past 7 years, I’ve established my lifestyle website as a daily source of inspiration and information for over 250,000 subscribers and social media followers (mostly women, age 20–45).

Throughout my blogging career, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with nearly 300 of the world’s top brands on sponsored campaigns, including Olay, Conair, Oscar de la Renta, Reebok, and more. I’ve also been featured on InStyle.com, Shape.com, and other publications and websites, and have traveled the world working with premier hotels (like Four Seasons, The Ritz-Carlton, The Grand Hotel, etc.) on original luxury travel guides. In addition, my articles have been published in several magazines and websites, including Carmel Magazine, The Los Angeles Fashion Magazine, Shakers Magazine, SeeMonterey.com, and The Huffington Post.

The mission of Inspirations & Celebrations is to educate and empower women through original content. I regularly publish tutorials, how-to guides, and articles on a range of topics: Beauty, Health & Fitness, Wellness, Home & Entertaining, Travel, and more. In addition, I often collaborate with friends and associates who are experts in their fields — including fitness instructors, beauty experts, and more.

Can you share the funniest or most interesting story that happened to you in the course of your career?

As a Do-It-Herself gal (I call myself a multi-hyphenate #GirlBoss, as I often act as the actress/model/photographer/editor/writer/promoter), I’ve been known to stage photos all by myself.

The funniest moment happened when I was shooting a Gillette Venus razor campaign. At the time, I was only relying on my tripod and camera self-timer to shoot my photos. Here I was all setup on the beach, sitting on a rock wearing shorts while holding a razor near my legs — with my tripod and camera set-up nearby. During my little photo-shoot (which made me look like a self-absorbed narcissist, I can only imagine), the parents of a childhood friend walked by me and stopped to ask what I was up to. I had to explain to them that I wasn’t just trying to take sexy selfies on the beach by my lonesome, but that I needed photos for a campaign. They thought it was rather amusing. What an embarrassing moment!

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I love creating a community of empowered and enlightened women who support and motivate each other. One of the greatest joys I’ve experienced in running Inspirations & Celebrations is connecting with the fans and seeing their love and kindness expressed through their positive comments left on social media. In a world filled with hate speech and online bullying, building a community that focuses on positivity and helps people live an inspired life is my number one priority.

If someone would want to emulate your career, what would you suggest are the most important things to do?

Be true to yourself and do what you love. Focus on being an original, doing things your way (without copying other people), and creating the best content you possibly can. Always be open to learning, growing, and evolving. Challenge yourself to face your fears, get out of your comfort zone, and dream big.

When it comes to blogging, finding your authentic voice (and expressing your truth) is important, as it engenders trust in your followers. It’s also helpful to focus on your strengths. Are you a great photographer? Do you love baking? Are you into modeling? Do what you’re naturally drawn to do.

Is there a particular person that made a profound difference in your life to whom you are grateful?

All my friends and family have supported me on this journey. Coming from an entrepreneurial background (my Dad, Mom, and brother have all launched businesses), each has encouraged me to make my dreams come true by starting my own company. My Dad taught me how to do sales and handle finances, my Brother encouraged me to think big and go online (as he launched a few online businesses by the age 32), and my Mom inspired me to use my creativity and artistic talents in my career.

Can you share a story?

One of my favorite parts of this job is traveling. I love collaborating with top hotels and brands as it not only makes my work more exciting, it also enables me to add beautiful content to Inspirations & Celebrations’ travel section. A few of my favorite properties that I’ve worked with have been The Grand Hotel in Oslo, The Absalon Hotel in Copenhagen, The Four Seasons Resort in Santa Barbara, and The Ritz-Carlton in Laguna Niguel.

So what are the most exciting projects you are working on now?

I’m currently collaborating with my sponsor, Walmart, on the exciting launch of the new Winemakers Selection brand — which is their new collection of private label fine wines. I was hired to cover their upscale brand launch party in May in Los Angeles, and then a few weeks later, to show my followers inspiring ideas on how to host a festive Summer party, complete with food and wine pairings. The creative project inspired me so much that I even added a DIY party decoration component, by using the packing materials (from the Walmart box) to create gorgeous DIY Paper Flower centerpieces that are being featured in the photos.

What are your “Top Five Ideas About How Influencers Can Monetize Their Brand” .

  1. One of the top ways bloggers / influencers make money is through sponsored campaigns. While banner ads used to be a big way for websites to earn revenue, those are less impactful nowadays. Instead, brands and businesses are turning to content creators to bring their products to life. These sponsored blog and social media posts show followers inspiring, original ways to use these products.
  2. While banner ads are still relevant (especially for highly-trafficked websites), a common way to earn money for bloggers / influencers is through affiliate commissions. Using affiliate networks (like RewardStyle or Commission Junction) enables websites (or even social media influencers) to earn a percentage from each sale by driving traffic to retailers’ pages. As an example, if a reader clicks on my link about lipstick, but ends up buying mascara on that retailer’s website, I earn commission on the sale.
  3. A few other ways an influencer can earn income is through paid speaking engagements, hosting events on behalf of a brand, or through consulting gigs. As a blogger/influencer becomes more popular and grows their authority on a subject, they can command higher rates.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
