I am now the father of a little girl, only two years old, and I would say without a doubt, my movement would be to benefit children. Children are our future and, in all parts of the world, they deserve to live as children should live: with serenity. This is unfortunately difficult because in various parts of the world, children are starving. I see situations where they are forced to begin working at far too young an age, or are dying of sickness. All of humanity should unite to do more for children worldwide, as they are the future. I imagine that with a worldwide association composed of prominent figures in the entertainment industry, and with the right communication, we would be able to generate awareness and involvement for the success of the mission. I love charity, and while I am currently involved with only a select few charity associations, I believe we must all do and provide more for such purposes.

I had the pleasure of interviewing filmmaker and producer Oscar Generale. The daily newspaper “SOLE24ORE” has nicknamed him “Manager of the Stars” and “King of the Product Placement”. Additionally, “Forbes” Italian edition dedicated 5 pages of the magazine to him. Oscar is a man full of energy, ideas, and substance, features that have contributed to his success. Oscar is a “Zip Man”, acting as the link between some of the most important and significant companies in the world and the stars of Hollywood, providing international A list celebrities with the most famous and essential brands in the world, thereby finalizing the most important product placement operations in the advertisement and movie industry.

Thank you so much for joining us Oscar! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

As a native of Turin, Italy, 47 years ago, after school, I began working a number of different jobs. My bold, whimsical nature and strong desire to achieve led me to enter into the world of entertainment. This world was full of works that had always fascinated me and which I had always wanted to be involved in. This is how I started on my career path. Early in my career, I began working as a manager for some of the most important Italian actors of the Italian small and big screens, such as Giancarlo Giannini, Ornella Muti, and several others. I acted as a liaison between such individuals and the highest Italian brands, signing many major deals. Day after day, the work has only increased. With time, my clients became loyal to me due to my creativity, ideas, and professionalism, and began asking me for more prominent celebrities that are known worldwide. I developed my business by booking international A list of celebrities for the most famous and essential brands in the world, finalizing the most recognized product placement operations in the advertisement and movie industries. Among these are individuals such as John Travolta, Julia Roberts, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Dustin Hoffman, George Clooney, Bruce Willis, and Al Pacino. The idea to move my business to Los Angeles was offered to me by Dustin Hoffman, who, during a stay in Italy for various jobs on which we were working together, urged me that with my competence, successful ideas, and professionalism, I could achieve enormous success in the United States. From that day forward, I have worked very hard to reach my goal of becoming an agent and producer. Many years ago, I moved to Los Angeles, and I can say, I have gained the trust of many people through my professional etiquette and my respect for the numerous important roles in the entertainment industry.

What would you recommend to a young person who would like to learn from your success?

It is very, very simple. I worked. Extremely hard, somewhere around 20 hours a day. So I’d advise that if you have a dream, and you would like to achieve it, then the manner by which you are most likely to reach that goal is by working hard and smart.

Can you share the funniest or most interesting story that occurred to you in the course of your Acting/Directing/Producing career?

One of the most hilarious situations that I can recall over the course of my career took place was while I was in Italy with Dustin Hoffman shooting a commercial for a prominent coffee brand. In the evening, after the working day had ended, Dustin invited the whole family that owned this coffee brand to the cinema in the center of Milan to watch a film that had just come out in theaters. When Dustin Hoffman presented himself at the box office to buy the tickets, the lady behind the crate did not believe her eyes…..Wow, Dustin Hoffman in person! ….Within a few moments, many people had surrounded the actor, begging for pictures and autographs…It was like a movie scene! Dustin is truly one of the greatest actors in world cinema.

What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are currently working on?

I have one HUGE and exciting project I am working on with an artist I discovered a couple of years ago: Francesco La Rosa. You can check him on my website, www.oscargeneraleart.com. He is an extremely talented Italian contemporary artist who uses scalpels and knives in order to create works of art. He is specialized in micro carving on large Italian leather — Vicenza Pelli for the recent portraits done — to create unique and imaginative works of art. He is particularly fascinated with photorealistic paintings, realizing them in strictly black and white, because he loves the beauty of shadows and lights that characterize each picture. The spark that inspired him to create his most recent works happened while he was creating an incision on leather for a commissioned work, when he suddenly realized scalpels and knives could be used to create a different and unique effect. Francesco is obsessed with perfection and detail. Working on leather with his techniques does not allow for mistakes, as they cannot be erased. Francesco has already begun working on a fantastic piece: replicating Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” in it’s true size on a massive piece of leather. This piece is being sponsored by “Vicenza Pelli”, as well as “Aranyani.” This project is thrilling because once finished, we will reveal the work of art in different cities around the world — You will hear a lot about Francesco La Rosa and his art. Additionally, due to his talent, he has recently customized limited edition handbags, exclusively created for Aranyani brand, the new gold standard in luxury handbags. This is another client of mine.

Who are some of the most interesting people you have interacted with? What was that like? Do you have any stories?

The most exciting person I have met is Morgan Freeman. He is not only one of the greatest actors in the world, but he is very knowledgeable, and a profound person with values that I find to make a real difference in life. Every moment I spend with him is precious; I always learn new things from him, as I find that Morgan is genuinely very wise. I always love to surround myself with people older than I am, as I find I am like a sponge: I absorb the best from all.

Which people in history inspire you the most? Why?

Hannibal. He is the undisputed protagonist of the Second Punic War and a brilliant commander. The success of the war is undoubtedly linked to his character’s agility and speed. He is the most fearsome enemy in Rome. In the Carthaginian, the commander possessed all the traits of a genuinely exceptional personality: extraordinarily intelligent, cunning, daring, fearless in the face of dangers, tireless, and acted as both a commander and soldier among his men.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

I am now the father of a little girl, only two years old, and I would say without a doubt, my movement would be to benefit children. What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started” and why? Please share a story or example for each.

1. Always count on yourself and your skills

2. Hire a good lawyer, because only 20% of people in entertainment are honest, the other 80% are sadly not.

3. People will, unfortunately, take advantage of you, so be wise and do not count 100% on so-called friendships.

4. You have to be attentive

5. Be very careful in any deal negotiations. Always make sure you understand your project 100% before presenting it to anyone.

Some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might see this. 🙂

I have many personal relationships and friendships worldwide, but there is indeed a person with whom I would like to have dinner with, and that would be James Cameron. I consider him a genius. His two films, Avatar and Titanic, are the first and the third highest grossing films in the history of cinema. To parallel, he ventured into the production of documentaries and, following the conception and realization of new cinematographic technologies, greatly contributed to the understanding of underwater footage, as well as the development of computer graphics and three-dimensional cinema. To me, he is a precursor of our times. I am sure that if we had the chance to meet eye to eye, we would truly understand each other and speak the same language, so to speak.
