Everyone, everywhere, should meditate for every day for 10 minutes. That alone would ignite so many amazing changes in how we relate to each other, to ourselves — it would absolutely change the world.

I had the pleasure to interview International Psychic Medium and Spiritual Life Teacher Erica Korman. Erica started her career as a psychotherapist in NYC — but these days she’s known as “Miami’s Medium.” Erica’s unique ability to connect with the deceased led her to become a world-renowned Psychic Medium and Spiritual Life Expert. Today, she works with clients from around the globe — including both living and dead celebrities who have passed over. Drawn to help people from an early age, Erica she completed her post-master’s advanced training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from NYU’s Psychoanalytic Institute. She went on to work at Psychiatric hospitals and supervise clinics throughout New York before launching her private practice in Manhattan. Soon, however, it became clear that the universe had something else in store for her. A life-changing move to Miami in 2013 allowed her to tap into her inner voice for the first time. That voice had been growing louder — and it told there was something beyond her traditional training that would help her clients connect to their spiritual nature. It was around that time she began to feel different and began to ‘see’ people who had passed over that were bringing her messages for loved ones, and she also began to receive Psychic messages. As a Psychotherapist, Erica herself was in shock and disbelief when she was sitting with a client and saw the client’s dead brother appear. She feared that as this message and the others that began to flood in, she wouldn’t know how to use her gift and was concerned what others would think. But being in Miami brought her a sense of tranquility — and for the first time in her life able to relax, allowing her the ability to fully focus on and accept her gift and began to build her skills. As Erica stepped into her life as a Psychic Medium, Energetic Healer and Spiritual/ Motivational Life Expert, she began to see that her experience in Psychotherapy was the perfect complement to her new path. “Visiting a Psychic Medium can offer or unlock a deeper level of healing for people,” she says. “It can be very enlightening and easy to understand for people because they can feel it.” Her background as a Psychotherapist continues to play a role in her journey as she values the importance of helping others move away from heaviness and confusion and into the light and freedom. Today, Erica has built a thriving business working with clients from around the world, as well with both living and dead celebrities who have passed over. A sought-after source and expert, Erica appeared TLC, MSNBC and CBS TV programs and has featured Refinery29, Readers Digest, The New York Post, Star Magazine, Life and Style Weekly Ocean Drive Magazine, Aventura Magazine, The New York Post, Star Magazine, Life and Style Weekly, Miami Modern Luxury and Hola Latinos.

Thank you so much for doing this with us Erica! Can you please share a bit of your “backstory” with us?

I’ve always known certain things about people, and I’ve always been able to feel different kinds of energy — but I didn’t know why until about 8 years ago. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to help people… But in my 20s I never could have imagined that it would be as a Motivational-Spiritual Expert, Psychic-Medium, and Energetic Healer.

I completed my post-master’s advanced training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from NYU’s Psychoanalytic Institute, and went on to work at Psychiatric hospitals and clinics in New York, before launching a private practice in Manhattan.

In 2012, I moved my practice and my family to Miami…And when I did, my entire life transformed. I was beginning, at that time, to lean into a more holistic lifestyle. I began to meditate, and meditation just completely opened a whole new world for me. It allowed me to connect to my inner voice for the first time.

Around that time, I began to feel different, and unusual things began happening — I started to ‘see’ people who had passed over that were bringing messages for loved ones. I also began to receive Psychic messages (seeing, hearing and feeling information about people).

And then , one day, I was sitting with a client, and I saw the client’s dead brother appear next to her.

I was so afraid that as this message, and others, began to flood in, I wouldn’t know how to use my gift — and I was scared of what others would think. It was truly shocking to me, and extremely overwhelming.

It took a lot of soul searching — and a lot of learning, and really diving into that world — to overcome my fears and bring my gifts out into the open. Ultimately, what I realized is that this isn’t about me — it’s much bigger than that…It’s about how many people I can help and heal with this gift.

What role did mindfulness or spiritual practice play in your life growing up? Do you have a funny or touching story about that?

Ironically, mindfulness and spirituality played absolutely no role in my life growing up. It wasn’t until my late twenties that I opened up to it — but once I did, it truly saved me; and it helped me discover my greatest gifts.

I was dealing with a lot of anxiety at that time, and I started to look into yoga, which led me to meditation — and then that developed into a holistic lifestyle. I became extremely passionate about around the time I moved to Miami. I actually got certified in Holistic Nutrition, and I also really started to deepen my meditation practice. For the first time, I was truly in touch with myself, and that’s when all of these gifts started opening up. Everything looks so different when we’re relaxed. That’s the key to everything.

How do your mindfulness or spiritual practices shape your business and personal life today?

Mindfulness and spiritual practices have shaped every area of my life. It’s helped me to trust — and to teach others to trust their intuition. There is a saying: “The more quiet you are the more you can hear.” You’re hearing your higher self, that’s your intuition, and you’re going within the flow of the universe. So you’re being guided to the people you’re supposed to be around, the work you’re supposed to be doing. You just have to be really quiet to hear it.

Do you find that your clients — or people in general — are more successful at work when they integrate spiritual and mindful practices? Can you share an example or story about that with us?

Yes, 100%. You will become more effective anywhere and everywhere when you begin to integrate spiritual and mindful practices into your life and work. There’s guidance that we can’t hear when we’re running around; there’s so much noise everywhere. When you begin practicing mindfulness, you’re able to focus; you’re able to be more present; you’re able to hear others more and listen to other ideas. Your anxiety will fall away, and you will be more productive overall.

What would you say is the foundational principle for one to “lead a good life”? Can you share a story that illustrates that?

At its most basic, leading a good life is being 100% your authentic, vulnerable self. That is your ultimate level of freedom, peace, happiness, and joy. Leading a good life is doing what feels good to you, doing what nourishes your soul. We all came here with different amazing qualities, wants, and likes.

My story is that I’m living that — but it has taken me many years to get here. I had to really learn to stop being a “people pleaser,” and stop doing things that don’t resonate with me; I had to learn to not care what other people think. And I’m still learning and still growing from that.

Can you share a story about one of the most impactful moments in your spiritual/mindful life?

When I first started seeing people who passed over, I was worried that other people might think I was crazy — and I was scared to take on all the extra responsibility. I wanted to badly to be able to deny these gifts. Until one day, a friend’s father who had passed over, came to me to let me know that she needed to have her breasts examined. And I told her, and she did… It turned out that she had a lump in her breast — that she had no idea about — and it had to be removed. That message could have saved her life.

When I started getting more messages along those lines, I knew that I couldn’t deny my gifts any longer. I realized that my gifts could be a gift to others, too — and I could help people in a very important way That’s when I knew that this this was something that I needed to embrace and do .

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I’m incredibly grateful to my mentor Nicola Salter. I was seeing, feeling, and hearing dead people everywhere — and it was giving me major anxiety. I thought I was losing my mind; I didn’t want to go out; I didn’t know what to do…So I asked the Universe for help.

I ended up going to a party — and I just didn’t want to be there at all. I was just standing at the bar drinking wine by myself, and this girl came up to me, and she started talking about all this spiritual stuff…Things that’d I been trying to deny in myself.

And then the girl gave a me a card and she said, “I think you’d really like my Psychic. Here’s her number, you should call her.” And I called her the next day — it was Nicola. The Universe led me to her, and she truly helped me and saved me in so many ways.

I realized, as this was happening, that I’d been led there. There are times when you don’t want to do something, or go to specific place, but you are led there anyway. That’s when you’re being moved by a spirit. Everything is pushing you towards something.

Can you share 3 tips for how leaders can create a very “healthy and uplifting” work culture?

  • Take breaks throughout the day: Go for a walk and get outside — or even just shut your office door and take a quiet moment. Giving yourself these kinds of timeouts during the day will help you regroup and refocus.
  • Break the chain of gossip and negativity: When people start complaining, it’s easy to just jump on the bandwagon. Ultimately, however, it feels so much better — and it’s also so much better for the entire office, and the culture there — if you can learn to shift your focus to the good, rather than dwelling on all of the things that are going wrong. Radiate positive energy and you will not only lift yourself up — you will lift others up as well.
  • Remember the common reason that you are all here, working together: Remind yourself of the bigger purpose behind your work, and all the ways in which your work is helping others.

If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger!

Everyone, everywhere, should meditate for every day for 10 minutes. That alone would ignite so many amazing changes in how we relate to each other, to ourselves — it would absolutely change the world.
