In an another recent piece on Thrive Global I shared the S.T.O.P. technique which I use on a daily basis to help me to Thrive!

And if you’ve started to incorporate this, or any of the other Mindfulness based techniques I’ve been writing about, then I bet that pretty soon you’re going to feel like your personal brightness switch has been turned right up!

Now in this piece I want to share with you another technique that I use on a daily basis and which is also featured in Chapter 6 of, ‘Uncovering Mindfulness: In Search of a Life More Meaningful’.

And it’s called R.A.I.N.

Again this is another really effective technique to help deal with those everyday distractions, provide a clear focus and give you a refreshed mental clarity and sense of purpose.

And yes, I also know that if you put — ‘Stop’ & ‘Rain’ together — you almost have the title of a Creedence Clearwater Revival song

So, how do the 4 simple steps work?

1. R = Recognise when a strong emotion is present

2. A = Allow or at least acknowledge it is there

3. I = Investigate and with kind curiosity to yourself, explore how you feel, together with the physical sensations it is causing you, &

4. N = Non Identify with it i.e. recognise that this emotion is just another passing state of mind and it is most certainly not a definition of who you are; this will encourage and enable you to cultivate an understanding and some objective distance.

It really is as simple as that, so remember what Yoda says — “Give it a try why don’t you”, & Enjoy Dancing!!
