DJ Khaled’s success runs deeper than “the materialistic stuff and the money,” he tells Arianna Huffington on The Thrive Global Podcast, in partnership with iHeartRadio and Sleep Number. For him, “success is happiness.”
The Grammy-nominated musician, best-selling author and DJ recently sat down with Huffington, who asked him how he learned to redefine success as contentment instead of materialism. His answer? Family.
“My son has brought me more happiness,” Khaled tells Huffington. “He showed me the true definition of happiness, joy, and love.” In fact, DJ Khaled’s upcoming album, Father of Asahd, is dedicated to his one-year-old son, and the artist hopes to raise his son with the same abundance of love he received during his own childhood. “I’ve been raised by a beautiful family,” he tells Huffington. “My mother and father, I love them so much.”
There’s no question that DJ Khaled feels fortunate for his own support system, but he’s also passionate about lending a hand to others who are working toward their goals as well. “In my life, all I ever wanted was an opportunity. [Now] I love to give people opportunities,” he says.
Khaled’s championing of others has even become a part of his personal brand, and he wants others to know that you don’t need millions of Snapchat followers to inspire and encourage. “Don’t be scared to watch other people prosper and win,” he says. “The more blessings you give, the [more] blessings you get back.”
