Early in his career, Sean “Diddy” Combs wasn’t exactly a spokesperson for prioritizing sleep. The Bad Boy Records founder had a sign that read “no sleep” painted in the hallway of his office. In some periods of his life, he’d stay up all night recording music, and then go straight to a film studio to work on a movie project — a formula that led to 10-minute naps as a (poor) substitute for the sleep he wasn’t getting at night.
Then, around his 40th birthday, everything changed. Where once he was “proud of working 18 hours a day and sleeping three hours a night,” he came to admit it was “a problem for me: not being able to sleep, having insomnia,” he told ABC. “My mind is always racing, and always going and always working, and it’s a gift and a curse. When I was starting out it was something I embraced, but now it’s something that I hate, it will torture you.”
Knowing that he needed to make a change, he enlisted the help of Arianna Huffington, Thrive Global Founder & CEO. They worked together to change his sleep habits — which have paid off. “Diddy asked me to be his sleep coach,” Huffington shared in her Instagram post. “Well, the teacher has now become the student because I’ve been listening to Diddy’s guided Sleep Meditation ever since we did the recording. In it, he helps us ‘slow down, and drift off into the peaceful, restorative sleep’ we deserve.”
And you can get the benefit of Diddy’s exclusive meditation on Audible too — at a time when you really need quality ZZZ’s. “With all of the stress and anxiety going on, that time to rest, sleep and recharge is harder to come by more than ever,” the hip-hop legend and entrepreneur tells Thrive. “We need to do everything we can and own our health. Listen to me… I can put you to sleep.”
