If you have heard some rumors and still have doubts about what is dedicated hosting and how it can help you to boost your website, dare to read this. Growing your business in Asia should be not an aspiration, but something mandatory. More customers mean more revenue, so this can only translate into pure joys, right? Well, yes and no.

As in the physical world, in the digital environment, growing your business in Asia implies having enough resources to be able to cope with it. A website that is suddenly flooded by excessive growth of visitors or with very specific requirements at the technology or security level may be vulnerable if you do not have an adequate hosting plan. Here I leave you 3 points to better understand what dedicated hosting is and know if it is for you: In addition click here for more information.

1. Differences between dedicated, VPS and shared hosting:

Your website is stored inside a server. The big difference in the price you pay for the different hosting plans refers to how many privileges you will be having within the same server, is a shared plan the cheapest option, followed in cost by a VPS and in the end by a dedicated server. We will try to clarify this by equating it to the search for a place to live:

Shared hosting: If you have little money and do not want to spend much on the payment of common services such as water, electricity, telephone and gas, and you do not mind living a little tight space, shared hosting is ideal. Here you will share hosting your site with hundreds or thousands more, dividing costs to make it as economical as possible.

Take into account that there will be some small points of care that depend on the misuse or abuse of the other sites to the resources that are available on the server. It is ideal for small or growing sites.

VPS Hosting: when your business starts to grow, your requirements may be more specific: you will need more space, resources and security to be able to run your operations. A VPS works like a small department, where you will continue to share resources with the rest of the “building”, but you will have much greater power and independence, thus giving you the flexibility to experiment a little more with your page.

Dedicated Hosting: the top of the food chain of hosting services is a dedicated server. And as you may well imagine, this means total control.

2. Characteristics of dedicated hosting:

Now that the concept of dedicated hosting is clear, it is necessary to show certain benefits and features that you will be acquiring when you hire a powerful server of this caliber:

Total root control: there are times that your page will require some type of function or technology in particular that can only run on a dedicated server. Here you can access the root directory and install what you need to make your projects a reality.

Great ability to receive heavy amounts of traffic: forget about suffering from sudden traffic spikes that you don’t understand where they came from. The memory and processing capacity of these servers will be useful in most circumstances, so you can sleep peacefully that your page will always be up.

File Backup: Many of the dedicated server solutions include the backup of the files and databases included in it periodically to prevent any surprise from leaving you without a site.

Greater security by not sharing: having exclusivity on the server will give you confidence that no other site can be a threat due to bad security practices that you usually keep in mind.

3. Control to your measure with different administration options:

Taking the step to have a dedicated hosting involves on your part a strong level of investment in two aspects:

  • The first is obviously the monetary one, since, by not sharing with anyone the cost of the server, everything will fall into your wallet.
  • The second is the technician, and despite having a CPanel module to access the vast majority of server functions, you will need to decide if you have the right team of people to manage the server on your own.

There are options for self-administered, semi-administered, and fully managed servers that will fit your needs. If you do not have an Information Technology department that can take the reins of the server and perform all these types of complex tasks, it is best to hire a fully managed option. In case you are ready to take everything home, the self-administered option will be ideal.

Keep in mind that a dedicated server is the greatest capacity for power and flexibility at the web level that you can obtain, and as such includes many responsibilities for proper operation.

Try to analyze thoroughly and with the technical support of your hosting provider other options such as virtual private servers and in the cloud to see if you can make an intermediate step before going to a dedicated solution. In the end, if your company grows by leaps and bounds sooner or later you will get there, but there is no reason to get ahead for now.
