When you have the opportunity to ask some of the most interesting people in the world about their lives, sometimes the most fascinating answers come from the simplest questions. The Thrive Questionnaire is an ongoing series that gives an intimate look inside the lives of some of the world’s most successful people.

Thrive Global: What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?
Dany Garcia: Grab an espresso, put my French bulldog, Franklin Washington, on my lap and enjoy a quiet 10 minutes before things get hectic.

TG: What gives you energy?
DG: The idea that today I have an opportunity to change the world.

TG: What’s your secret life hack?
DG: Hiring an amazing full time personal driver.

TG: Name a book that changed your life.
DG: “Power vs Force” by David Hawkins.

TG: Tell us about your relationship with your phone. Does it sleep with you?
DG: Our relationship is respectful. It goes night night when I go to sleep.

TG: How do you deal with email?
DG: The majority of my emails act like a newsfeed keeping me abreast to what’s going on with my companies. I have a great, efficient team which allows me to weigh in on the 10 percent that truly need my attention.

TG: You unexpectedly find 15 minutes in your day, what do you do with it?
DG: I’m obsessed with movie trailers and the art of storytelling within 120 seconds.

TG: When was the last time you felt burned out and why?
DG: The end of 2016. My companies had experienced exponential growth and success that created a new work paradigm. It took me a moment to adjust.

TG: When was the last time you felt you failed and how did you overcome it?
DG: That’s a difficult question for me to answer. There’s not a failed outcome in my process. It just means I haven’t found my answer yet.

TG: Share a quote that you love and that gives you strength or peace.
DG: “God Save the Queen.” I was exposed to the phrase when I was 13 years old, not knowing its context, and with adolescent enthusiasm I decided to reference myself as the queen.
