Dancing with my baby in the summer rain

Tips on how to deal with rain on your wedding day

Wedding season is well and truly in full swing. The summer is still the most popular time of year to get married in the UK, but as we all know the weather here is hardly reliable. I have come across so many brides that are worried about having rain on their wedding day and it is in fact it is the number one fear amongst brides, so I felt drawn to write a blog post on it, if not just for the reason I got to quote Belinda Carlisle in the title, it will help you not become obsessive about checking your weather app in the run up to your big day.

The first thing to remember is that the weather is completely out of your control. Easier said then done, granted, but there’s no point worrying about the weather, letting it stress you out or potentially ‘ruining’ your day (which it won’t – I promise). The best thing to do is put some contingency plans in place, below are some top tips to help put your mind at ease.

#1 Plan for rain
When planning a beautiful summer wedding, the majority of people will plan for reception drinks and canapés on the lawn, outside music, photographs in the sunshine and maybe even some garden games. Speak to your wedding planner or the venue about where these things can be held if it does rain, maybe they have an inside room you can move in to, or perhaps they can put up a marquee in the grounds of the venue. Make sure they can cater for all your guests if they can’t go outside.

#2 You can have some great photographs
Rain can actually give you some fantastic photos as the lighting is better and no-one will be squinting from the sun! A good photographer will have experience in dealing with all types of weather. If you are concerned speak to them about different places you can have photographs taken if it is raining outside, however if it’s your style, embracing the rain can be so much fun and produce some memorable and stunning photography.

#Props
I’ve seen some amazing photographs of brides in wellies and there are some beautiful wedding umbrellas that you can now purchase. Check out www.brolliesgalore.co.uk or www.jollybrolly.co.uk for some inspiration. Props can also be used in your photographs so let go and have some fun!

#Be flexible
Use the team of professionals around you. Your wedding planner, venue co-ordinators, caterers, photographers, videographers etc will all have experience of working different types of weddings, in different venues with different conditions. It might be that you move a few things around to avoid heavy downpours and adapt to the weather.

#Remember what the day is about
Even with the best-laid plans, things can still go wrong – whether it’s the weather or something else, nothing will ruin your special day with those you love around you to celebrate. Plus, it’s actually said to be ‘good luck’ to have rain on your wedding day!

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
