Connect with your inner wisdom and do “The Work.” This is 5Mins & 5Qs with the brilliant Bryon Katie.

Byron Katie has been bringing The Work to millions of people for more than twenty-five years. Through a number of simple exercises she shows us that when we do The Work we eventually see that the answers are always inside us, just waiting to be heard...

What is the work?

The Work is meditation. It is a method of inquiry born directly out of my own experience. This practice allows you to access the wisdom that always exists within you. It consists of four questions and these questions allows you to experience the opposite of what you believe. When you question a thought, you see around it to the choices beyond suffering.

What are the questions?

1. Is it true?
2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
3. How do you react when you believe that thought?
4. Who would you be without the thought
?

Every time you do The Work you are becoming enlightened to who and what you are, the true nature of being. To question what you believe is an amazing gift to give yourself, and you can have it all the days of your life. The answers are always inside you, just waiting to be heard

What is the best piece of advice you were ever given?

Question your stressful thoughts.

What was the biggest challenge you overcame?

When I believed my thoughts, I suffered, but that when I didn’t believe them, I didn’t suffer, and that this is true for every human being.

How did you get out of your own way?

By doing The Work questioning my thoughts, only then can you see around it to the choices beyond suffering. Freedom is as simple as that. I found that suffering is optional. I found a joy within me that has never disappeared, not for a single moment. That joy is in everyone, always.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
