CES Soothes Attendees with a Massive Sleep Tech Presence

Improve your sleep with actionable insights using tech in the bedroom.

It is no secret how important sleep is for the human body and avoiding burnout. Many entrepreneurs and people in general struggle falling asleep at night or don’t sleep through the whole night. As unique as everyone’s sleeping issues are, our sleeping aid solutions need to be equally personalized.

CES presented an expanded show floor dedicated to sleep tech companies creating all sorts of innovative products. There were enough demos to try out that after a few sessions of various sleep/relaxation technologies, participating attendees were actually falling asleep in the middle of CES.

You can take a natural approach to improve your sleep by establishing or re-establishing a routine and compliment your efforts by using a tech product to measure the changes. Besides noticing how you feel in the morning, it is useful to have access to a reliable set of metrics about your sleep performance, and for that, we need technology.

This way you have actionable data to help you understand what is working and not working as you refine your sleeping process. With the rise of sleep tech and an increasing number of wearables, smart mattresses, and apps to choose from, how do you know which products to invest in and try?

Optimize Your Sleeping Environment

The ability to dynamically control your sleeping environment like audio, light, temperature, and scent is a growing trend among the new suite of sleep tech products. Interconnectivity between devices in the home is on the rise thanks to the smart home movement and sleep tech is positioned to play a major role. Your sleep products, such as a wearable, will communicate with your home thermostat, room lighting, smart speakers, smart aromatherapy devices and more to adjust the environment to optimize your sleep at every step from falling asleep, staying asleep, and waking up energized.

The NeuroBeat Puck  smart sleep speaker is bringing a new level of personalization to binaural beats with their RBS (Real-time Binaural Sound) technology. If your goal is to control your audio to maximize sleep, NeuroBeat’s line of products allow you to transform any song, downloaded or streamed, of your choosing into a binaural experience. It’s important to note that their products have undergone clinical testing and are backed with data. This is a very interesting solution that addresses the audio aspect of your sleeping environment.

Another very important sleep factor to consider is temperature. Room temperature matters but its body temperature that we really want to affect. This is the scientific basis for the temperature regulating tech for pillows created by Moona which also has undergone clinical testing. They’ve created a foam pad insert that you slide inside your pillowcase. This pad is connected to bedside water pump that is able to regulate the temperature of the pad. This method of effectively cooling your body temperature from the pillow is attractive but it is not entirely affordable.

All the tech is great, but the mattress you sleep on is kind of a big deal too. If you really are getting the full 8 eight hours per night commonly suggested, that means you are in that bed for one third of your life. Mattress companies like Sleep Number, where Arianna Huffington spoke on a panel about sleep tech insights, were exhibiting at CES and provided a sort of oasis for marathon-walking attendees. Luxury mattress company Magniflex displayed a $20,000 mattress and adjustable bed system. Creating an affordable version, is startup Yaasa, who is also making headlines with their all-in-one wellness blanket, Elements Blanket.

Listen to the Experts

In addition to product reviews, you should look at what the sleep experts are recommending and consider well-researched technologies and products. The general consumer is not keen on reading clinical trial results from a medical journal to verify the validity of potential benefits claimed by companies.

To address this gap in the market and establish consumer trust in the sleep industry, SleepScore Labs is vetting products through a scientific validation study in their lab and then including them in a curated sleep product store. They’ve also created a contact-free sleep tracking app that is using tech that the company considers to be the most accurate. Now, they’re on a mission to educate the world about sleep and have teamed up Dr. Oz (Mehmet Oz) to spread the word.

“Sleep is a critical component of a healthy life, and we’ve made it our mission to help the world achieve a more restful night’s sleep,” said Colin Lawlor, CEO of SleepScore Labs. “We’ve developed an easy way to accurately measure your sleep for free and make smarter decisions about how to get a more restful night’s sleep. We’ve paired this with our curated SleepScore Store, filled with handpicked products tested and scored by our sleep experts, so everyone has the opportunity to unlock their true potential through better sleep.”
