CES presented an expanded show floor dedicated to sleep tech companies creating all sorts of innovative products. There were enough demos to try out that after a few sessions of various sleep/relaxation technologies, participating attendees were actually falling asleep in the middle of CES.

Interconnectivity between devices in the home is on the rise thanks to the smart home movement and sleep tech is positioned to play a major role. Your sleep products, such as a wearable, will communicate with your home thermostat, room lighting, smart speakers, smart aromatherapy devices and more to adjust the environment to optimize your sleep at every step from falling asleep, staying asleep, and waking up energized.

Another very important sleep factor to consider is temperature. Room temperature matters but its body temperature that we really want to affect. This is the scientific basis for the temperature regulating tech for pillows created by Moona which also has undergone clinical testing. They’ve created a foam pad insert that you slide inside your pillowcase. This pad is connected to bedside water pump that is able to regulate the temperature of the pad. This method of effectively cooling your body temperature from the pillow is attractive but it is not entirely affordable.
All the tech is great, but the mattress you sleep on is kind of a big deal too. If you really are getting the full 8 eight hours per night commonly suggested, that means you are in that bed for one third of your life. Mattress companies like Sleep Number, where Arianna Huffington spoke on a panel about sleep tech insights, were exhibiting at CES and provided a sort of oasis for marathon-walking attendees. Luxury mattress company Magniflex displayed a $20,000 mattress and adjustable bed system. Creating an affordable version, is startup Yaasa, who is also making headlines with their all-in-one wellness blanket, Elements Blanket.

In addition to product reviews, you should look at what the sleep experts are recommending and consider well-researched technologies and products. The general consumer is not keen on reading clinical trial results from a medical journal to verify the validity of potential benefits claimed by companies.
