Makeup artist Bobbi Brown has been a beauty world icon and an inspiring businesswoman for decades. She’s now sharing wisdom gleaned along the way — both her own and her friends‘ — on her new podcast, Long Story Short.

The stories she shares on her podcast range far beyond the beauty world, taking the form of conversations with leaders across a range of fields and perspectives. Guests discuss everything from how they got their start and what drives them, to how they’re trying to make the world a better place. These conversations have a lot to teach us about what good leadership looks like, what makes a meaningful life, and the importance of personal relationships along the path to success.

The first episode of the show is a conversation between Brown and her longtime friend Mickey Drexler. Drexler, the former CEO of both Gap and J. Crew, was brought on by Steve Jobs to help create the now-iconic Apple stores, and went on to serve on the board of Apple for 16 years.

In the podcast, Drexler discusses what it was like to work with Steve Jobs, particularly in Jobs’ final years, as well as his own career journey. Watch the clip below, and listen to the rest of his episode, including his explanation for why he prefers to hire “fast walkers,” here.

Other guests include radio show host Elvis Duran, who regularly interviews stars like Lady Gaga and Adele. As Duran reminds us in his episode, success isn’t necessarily something tangible that we can measure from the outside: rather, it’s “being satisfied at the end of the day, with whatever you did that day.” Watch the clip below.

Duran’s wisdom, along with that of all Brown’s guests, serves to inspire, inform, and remind us of what’s important at the end of the day — wherever you are in your professional and personal journey.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
