I had the pleasure of interviewing Cale Anjoorian, founder and CEO of Lifebred. While launching Lifebred, Cale’s healthy lifestyle and 20 years of experience leading technology solutions in the Pharmaceuticals, Retail and Entertainment industry provided the inspiration and passion to create something innovative, cutting edge and naturally healthy for people of all ages.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

While growing up in Lawrence, MA and taking up boxing as an outlet, I quickly learned that there are better ways to make a living (putting my head to better use). I’ve always ate clean and as a lot of people know when eating clean, it’s not easy nor does it have an abundance of taste. Our food choices today & consumption of refined foods must change and I must do what I can to make a difference.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you began leading your company?

a. I would have to say as I dug into the refinement methods and chemicals being placed into our foods it gave me a whole new perspective and marketing vision for Lifebred. In order to get consumers to switch to Lifebred I had to make it frictionless / seamless so a focus on the look of the product (natural and sexy) and marketing (we are not just gluten free…) of it was super important.

What do you think makes your company stand out? Can you share a story?

a. Existing Markets indicate what’s been working. Studying these markets over time tell you the trends. Listening to consumers in these Markets tell you their needs. Consumer needs force innovation. Innovation creates New Markets. We studied market trends, listened to consumers, focused on innovation and created a new category. We’ve created the only organic / all-natural allergen-free bread that tastes great!

Are you working on any exciting new projects now? How do you think that will help people?

a. We are! In addition to our amazing allergen-free great tasting bread we are finalizing production of Lifebred Pizza Crusts, Lifebred Burger Buns and in the near future Lifebred Cupcakes. Same Allergen-Free components (Free of Gluten/Dairy/Soy/Peanut/Yeast/Gums/GMO’s) with even better taste!

What advice would you give to other C-Suite executives or founders to help their employees to thrive?

a. Take the time to find passionate people and in return they will be amazing for you. Make sure they understand the big picture but it’s ok they execute tactically. Just make sure your always aligned to your strategy.

How do you define “Leadership”?

a. Taking on risks but protecting others.

b. Driving execution for success.

c. Constantly thinking strategically to gain better visibility.

d. Make the hard decisions when needed.

e. Your level of work ethic is the only level you’ll get back from your employees.

f. Drive a culture of communication and fun (or else why do it).

What advice would you give to other C-Suite executives about the best way to manage a large team?

a. Although they all require different skill sets they must buy into the mission of the company. They must be collaborative, and communication is key. Surround yourself with people who have qualities you don’t have (but always wanted).

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

a. Initially I was alone in this journey trying to do it all, learn it all and get as far as I could. There are people you encounter that teach you lessons, hard ones and you learn what mistakes not to make again. On the flip side, there are people that share their experiences in their businesses, providing good visibility, support your passion and are open communicators. There are a few people that I credit with this.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

a. Success is variable. I push to succeed in certain places each day. I’m not successful nor will I ever be at a comfortable state to think I am successful. However, my mission is that Lifebred can bring goodness to the world, and change people’s lives for the better. More people, including allergy sufferers, can enjoy a traditional bread again with great Taste. If others are happy and can enjoy my product only then will I feel closer to success.

What are your “5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Became CEO” and why.

a. Starting a company takes money and if you can do it yourself do it for as long as you can (because you’re in control).

b. You need to take a lot of risk and accept failure as their will be plenty of it.

c. Everybody wants to take your money so be a good steward of your finances.

d. Protect yourself anywhere and everywhere possible. There are a TON of untrustworthy people.

e. Nobody cares about the new little guy, you need to find ways of standing out.

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

a. We all live on this planet! We are all Humans! We have only few differences and these are based on our religion, opinions and the color tone of our skin. We need to treat each other as if we want to be treated. We need to get along and if Lifebred can help everybody enjoy a common thing, then we are making progress.
