Ayurveda is an ancient healing art that has been practiced in India for more than 5000 years . It was formally recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a traditional medical system. The Center for Alternative and Complementary Medicines (NCCAM), under the United States Institute of Health, places Ayurveda in the category of major complementary professional systems.

In India, Ayurvedic doctors are also known as Vaidyas. There are several universities in India, dedicated exclusively to the prestigious graduate and postgraduate teaching of Ayurveda in the country. The duration of studies to graduate as an Ayurvedic doctor is five and a half years. The postgraduate course lasts another three years.

Texts of millenary medicine.

There are several ancient manuscripts, written in Sanskrit more than 2,000 years ago, which are considered the main scriptures on Ayurvedic medicine. The most famous of them are Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hrudayam,Sarnghadhara sambitha etc. Today almost 80 percent of the Indian population uses this type of medicine , either exclusively or in combination with conventional systems (let’s say “Western”). Ayurveda is also practiced in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Tibet, Nepal and Pakistan.

We are what we eat, what we do and what we think.

The human being is constituted by three aspects: the physical, the mental and the spiritual. Health is the harmonic functioning of all of them. Ayurveda is the first holistic system that studies the body, mind and emotions of the individual to diagnose diseases, treating the factors that cause them and not just their symptoms. It recognizes that the ultimate cause of all diseases is the violation of the laws of nature. Therefore, to maintain and / or restore health, direct your attention towards natural remedies.

For this, part of a basic premise: each of us is born with a unique combination of physical and psychological characteristics ( prakriti ) that affects the general health, in terms of the ability to resist and / or recover from a disease. Although it is believed that prakriti is invariable during a person’s life, there are other factors that can endanger our health.

The three doshas .

The Prakriti consists of three forces or energies called doshas , which control the body ‘s activities. They are known by their original names in Sanskrit: vata , pitta and kapha . Each individual has a unique combination of the three doshas , although one of them is usually predominant. The doshas are transformed depending on the feeding, the physical and mental activity and the corporal processes of each person. Ayurvedic  treatment in kerala medicine relates the possibility of developing certain types of diseases to the way in which the doshas are balanced.

The vata dosha combines ether and air elements. It is considered the most potent doshasince it controls basic processes such as cell division, heart, breathing, elimination of waste and the mind.
It is believed that people with predominant vata dosha are especially susceptible to skin and neurological diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, anxiety, heart disease and insomnia.

The pitta dosha represents fire and water elements. Pitta controls the hormones and the digestive system. A person with a pitta imbalance may experience negative emotions such as anger and may have physical symptoms such as heartburn.
It is believed that people with a predominantly pitta constitution are susceptible to hypertension, heart disease, infectious and digestive diseases. You can avail ayurvedic treatment in kerala.
