Are You Afraid of The Unknown?

Why it is not as scary as you think.

The Fear of the Unknown.

Every experience in Life carries an element of the Unknown.

A new baby.

A new house.

A new city.

The loss of a spouse.

The loss of a job.

The loss of a limb.

The end of a marriage.

The end of a life.

The end of a habit.

The start of a relationship.

The start of a storm.

The start of a new day.

Because you have yet to experience it.

Because this is what Life is.

This is what your life is.

A continuous flow of experiences.

From the moment you arrived.

To the moment you return.

When you first arrived in the world, you had no idea what to do.

It was completely unknown.

You just let your body do what it knew to do.

Breathe for you.

Let you know when it needed food.

Let you know when it was done digesting.

And you learned pretty quickly that all you needed to do was make a sound, a movement, a motion and your needs would be met.

Food.

A change in diapers.

A warm bath and a tender touch.

And as you continued to experience Life, you began to discover all these things you had never experienced before.

A flowing faucet.

A pile of newly fallen leaves.

A snowball.

A piece of cake.

A scoop of ice cream.

A chocolate chip cookie.

All previously unknown.

Until you experienced it.

And then something changed.

New experiences are no longer met with Joy and Wonder.

New experiences are now met with Anxiety and Apprehension.

The fear of meeting new people.

The fear of failure.

The fear of losing control.

So what happened?

Why are new experiences no longer filled with Joy and Wonder?

Why are you now afraid of the Unknown?

The Understanding.

You simply learned to think of the Unknown as a Thought.

A thought that makes you think the Unknown is something to be afraid of.

Something to be avoided at all costs.

Something to fear.

Rather than beginning from the Understanding.

The Understanding of how you have been experiencing the Unknown for your entire life.

Because no one knows what will happen in the next moment.

No one.

Not even you.

Which is why Life can change in a single moment.

Why your life can change in a single moment too.

From the Thought.

To the Understanding.

The Understanding of how Life unfolds Moment to Moment.

So you can return to the Understanding too.

The Understanding of how the Unknown is simply the next moment.

And within each moment, you can return to this understanding too.

So you can take a breath.

You can take a moment.

And see how we are all experiencing Life for the first time.

And so are you.

Which means there is nothing to be afraid of.

There is nothing to fear.

There is nothing to dread.

Because even if you feel the anxiety and the nervousness in one moment, you can return to the peace and calm in the next.

And let this be how you experience Life.

So you can meet any experience in your life with the comfort and security of the Understanding.

The Understanding that the Unknown is simply the next moment.

To live your life moment to moment too.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
