It’s the holiday season and I’m continuing to pursue the work I’ve spent many months on — furthering my ultimate goal and UN Women’s mission to create a world of equality and opportunity by launching a campaign supporting UN Women to advocate for girls’ education, advocating for representation and visibility of women and Asian Americans in media as a journalist for the LA Times, disseminating over five thousand period pads to women in need.
From the global head of HeforShe Elizabeth Nyamayaro, who I had the opportunity to profile as Medium’s Women’s Voices Editor, to all the interns I’ve connected with at the United Nations who share the dream of eradicating inequality, I am deeply honored to share my work and pursue my work as a UN Women advocate and support strong women.
2018 has been an incredible year pursuing my work as an advocate for the United Nations and UN Women, my passion for the arts and photography and working to empower women and girls in underserved areas such as parts of rural India through my foundation ShePower India.
In a fast-paced culture, we’ve grown accustomed to inadequacy gnawing at us and spurring us to achieve more, to do more, while spurning ourselves for failure but instead choose to reflect on the incredible opportunities we have been given and have the power to create for ourselves and underserved communities.
Let’s remember the duality of women and people, the power we have to make a difference and relentlessly pursue our goals, both to help others and ourselves, and fully embrace ourselves and our passions in 2019!
