I’ve spent months in India — from Delhi, Coimbatore and other parts of Tamil Nadu, Munipur and Mumbai — with ShePower making my difference and striving to empower and uplift girls and women through health education, self defense and empowerment workshops helping them to unlock their potential. And I’ve spent many more furthering UN Women’s mission to create a world of equality and opportunity by launching a campaign supporting UN Women to advocate for girls’ education, advocating for representation and visibility of women and Asian Americans in media as a journalist for the LA Times, disseminating over five thousand period pads to women in need in downtown Dallas and helming GirlUp Dallas.

From the global head of HeforShe Elizabeth Nyamaro, who I had the opportunity to profile as Medium’s Women’s Voices Editor, to all the interns I’ve connected with at the United Nations who share the dream of eradicating inequality, I am deeply honored to share my work and announce the role I am choosing to take on as a UN Women advocate this International Day of the Girl Child and am pledging to shine a light on women’s rights through my platform.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
