Thrive Global: What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?
Danielle Madeira: Stretch. Get my blood flowing.

TG: What gives you energy?
DM: Being around people, especially positive, thought-provoking people. That energy stays with me.

TG: What’s your secret life hack?
DM: A 2-minute cold shower at the end of your warm shower. Shocks the system and wakes you up.

TG: Name a book that changed your life.
DM: Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond. It opens your understanding of how different societies have evolved and how geography has a huge impact on where we are today. It gives you an understanding that we are equal but our circumstances might not be.

TG: Tell us about your relationship with your phone. Does it sleep with you?
DM: It is next to me when I sleep because I use it for alarm clock. I make rule to give distance before I go to bed and right when I wake up.

TG: How do you deal with email?
DM: It is my to-do list so my inbox should be empty after a productive day.

TG: You unexpectedly find 15 minutes in your day, what do you do with it?
DM: Walk my dog.

TG: When was the last time you felt burned out and why?
DM: I feel burned out a lot because of my job. I love working in the concert business but nights are long and my kids don’t care what time I went to sleep because they always wake up at the same time.

TG: When was the last time you felt you failed and how did you overcome it?
DM: I failed at my marriage. I got divorced two years ago. However, it took the divorce to force personal growth that I was avoiding in the marriage. I failed as a wife in that relationship but I grew as a person.

TG: Share a quote that you love and that gives you strength or peace.
DM: Life doesn’t happen to you, it happens for you.
