So looking at my blog stats the other day, and I am so surprised. Out of hundreds of people that read about nutrition, there were only seven that checked the About Me page on my site.
And while I know my background, others do not, and that’s the point I’d like to make today is how to recognize whether a source is reputable or not! By doing so, you can make the best decision when it comes to you and your family’s health!
Finding a Reputable Source & Taking Control of YOUR Health
#1: Where is the Article Published
One of the first steps is to see where the article is published. If it’s published in one of these 10 journalism brands or by .edu or .gov site, the data is **oftentimes** more reliable than a .com site.
**But with this in mind, there are exceptions like the one I’ve written about before. There were errors in the Washington Post, and if you want to read about it, click here or on the picture below.**
#2: Who wrote the article?
I always look to see whether the author is an RD, doctor, or someone with credentials. And then I check if they have any relationship to a company of the product in which they may be talking about.
#3: Look for data and do your research
After reading information, it’s important to look up more data. It’s important to determine whether it is based on one study or several, and the backing behind it. It’s easy for one study to be skewed, so it’s important that there are other studies that support.
Like this piece…
So simple article based on what I learned in college! I hope it helps you to decide whether something you read is reliable or not. In the past, I’ve seen many articles take a study and skew it into something that it’s not (see above). And as a result, many follow along, not knowing how much it can impact their health.
So stay healthy and happy, and let me know if you’d like to see more helpful hints like these. And by the way, if you haven’t already, check out my About Me page!
With Love Always,
Michele
