…I would start a conscious movement that I believe has already begun, the vibration of the planet is rising, and an awakening is happening. Especially the connection between humans and animals. More and more people are making the connection to what is on their plate and choosing to live a healthy, conscious, compassionate lifestyle. I believe the time is now.

I had the pleasure to interview Katie Cleary. Katie is an international model, award-winning producer and animal welfare advocate who spends her time helping animals across the globe. She is the founder of Peace 4 Animals, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting wildlife and companion animals, and the creator of World Animal News, delivering breaking news to readers worldwide. She is currently working on her second documentary, “We Are One,” which highlights people around the world fighting to protect animals from extinction. www.katiecleary.com

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you share with us the “backstory” that led you to this career path?

Growing up, I always knew that animal welfare was something that I was going to be involved with. I used my modeling and acting career as a platform to create my voice. When I was a young girl, I dreamt of having my own sanctuary to save and protect endangered species, saving big cats was my main focus and passion back then. I believe that my mission to help animals is a calling that I was blessed with on this earth.

What would you advise to a young person who wants to emulate your success?

I would say that any dream is possible. You are capable of accomplishing anything in this life, and if you work hard and stay focused, you can make any dream or passion a reality.

Is there a person that made a profound impact on your life? Can you share a story?

My grandfather had a profound impact on my life. He was an amazing inspirational man who was an architect, inventor and little old wine maker. He did it all and taught me to be a strong, independent woman and to never depend on anyone else, to do it yourself. We had such a special connection. He was one of my heroes and still is.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world? Are you working on any meaningful or exciting non-profit projects?

I created Peace 4 Animals in 2012, which is focused on protecting and saving endangered species, including partnering with sanctuaries and anti-poaching units, such as organizations in Africa that are fighting to save our species from poachers and work to stop trophy hunting. We also focus on educating the public and advocating for a plant-based diet, making the connection to what is on your plate. We also rescue domestic animals, as well as horses and farm animals and help to find them loving, forever homes.

In addition, I produced and wrote my first documentary, Give Me Shelter (which premiered on Netflix in 2015), to highlight the most important animal welfare issues worldwide, and I am currently finishing my second documentary, We Are One, which is a follow-up of my previous film, yet this time we are on the ground filming what is happening in animal welfare and the people on the frontlines of the fight, from Africa to Indonesia, to Mexico and the U.S.

Can you share with us a story about a person who was impacted by your cause?

There are a few people over the years who have reached out to me and have said that I have inspired them to pursue their dreams, and stand up for what they believe in, and to be a strong, beautiful, independent woman. I hope that I can inspire more young women entrepreneurs to create their own business and realize that anything is truly possible if you put your mind to it.

What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started.”

Don’t take shit from anyone and stand up for what you believe in.

Speak up and use your voice as a force of good.

Take calculated risks.

Travel the world.

Love as much as you can.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger.

I would start a conscious movement that I believe has already begun, the vibration of the planet is rising, and an awakening is happening. Especially the connection between humans and animals. More and more people are making the connection to what is on their plate and choosing to live a healthy, conscious, compassionate lifestyle. I believe the time is now.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote?”

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. -MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

Some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this if we tag them.

I would love to sit down with Jane Goodall and discuss if she would have guessed that she would be a famous icon and a force for good when she first began researching chimpanzees. I would love to ask her what would be her best word of advice for someone following in her footsteps?

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
