You will probably have very few friends in this business. People can be mean, especially teenagers. A lot of jealousy and misunderstandings; other kids don’t relate to me being homeschooled to pursue my career or working 10–12 hours per day, or on holidays. A lot of performances are around the holidays. My friends may be out of school or enjoying a break while I’m working and they don’t understand my lifestyle.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Estella Kirk. Estella is a singer, songwriter, actress and model who enjoys performing as well as being on the runway. At the young age of 13 she has already graced the runways of New York fashion week, L.A. fashion week, Cannes Fashion Festival as well as runways in Dallas, London and many others around the world.
Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
When I was 8 my mom submitted me for a photoshoot to model clothing for a designer and they picked me. I loved being in front of camera and the glamour and lights, from that moment on I know I wanted to pursue the runway and modeling. At the same time I loved singing and knew I had been blessed with a special voice and singing was truly my passion so I began taking voice lessons as well.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started this career?
When I was in Cannes for a fashion show I was invited to the Global Short Film Awards Gala held at the Intercontinental Carlton and I was selected as Young Talent Best Actress for role in “Unto Me”.
Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
Oh my, yes. When I received the best actress award I was so shocked and surprised I went up to accept the award and said I want to thank my parents and my mom and dad. It definitely gave everyone a laugh, obviously since my parents and mom and dad are all the same but I learned to just relax and take a deep breath when your in situations that make you nervous.
What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now?
Right now I am really focusing on my music and songwriting. I will be releasing a few originals very soon.
Who are some of the most interesting people you have interacted with? What was that like? Do you have any stories?
I have worked with Nancy Vuu who is an award winning designer of luxury couture and Peisha McPhee who is a vocal coach for American Idol & Disney.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
Do what you love — if your not truly passionate about what your doing find a different career path. Life is short, work hard and pursue your true passion and talents and you will not burn out.
You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂
Be kind — People become so harsh and judgemental in this world. Have the heart and eyes of a child and dont take on the ways of the world. Stay true to your heart, who you are and always treat others with kindness and respect.
What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started” and why. Please share a story or example for each.
Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?
Life is about risking everything for a dream no one can see but you. A lot of times what I was doing didn’t make sense but I knew in my heart I had a reason for doing it.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?
I would like to thank my parents — I could not do all of this without them!
Some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might see this. 🙂
Wow so many people I would probably have to say Ariana Grande, she has really been an inspiration to me with her style and Lauren Daigle I love her beliefs and and she has been an inspiration through her music.
