A Complete Guide to at-home Manicures and Pedicures

There are times when we can’t afford a salon session yet crave for perfectly done tips and toes.

This is possible at home only if you have little patience and you’re ready to put in some hard work. You need a few products such as cuticle softener, nail polish remover, moisturizer, scrub, pumice stone and nail colour. Also, keep a towel handy for drying your wet feet and hands.

Read on to find out how to get the perfect manicure and pedicure at home!

  1. Remove existing nail polish

Use an acetone-free nail polish remover on a cotton ball to get rid of existing nail colour from the nails of your fingers and toes. This is the first step to getting started with this pampering session because a blank slate is needed for a flawless appearance.

  • Trim and shape your nails

If you have long nails, then use a nail cutter to clip them until they reach the desired length. Once you’re satisfied with the length, you can go ahead and shape them with a nail file. Choose a nail shape that suits your preferences like oval, square or round based.

  • Smoothen your nails

Use a buffer to smoothen the surface of your nails to remove any faint colours that might stain your nails from previous polishes. After you’re done buffing, shine on your nails. But do not over-buff your nails as that can weaken them.

  • Soak your hands and feet in warm water

After you’re done treating your nails, you need to soak your hands and feet in warm water that is mixed with a mild shampoo. This will help you remove dirt easily and also make your hands and feet soft and supple. Just make sure you’re comfortable with the temperature of the water.

  • Scrub your hands and feet

Now use a body scrub to exfoliate your hands and feet. This will help you get rid of dead skin cells and make your skin smoother. Use a pumice stone and rub it in a circular motion over the bottoms and heels of your feet. Always remember to never to use a pumice stone for your hands as the skin on them is too soft.

  • Apply cuticle softener

Use a cuticle softener and apply it on the cuticles to make them soft. By doing so, you will be able to push back your cuticles. This will ensure you get long, flawless-looking nails.

  • Moisturize your hands and feet

After the cleaning sessions, use a moisturizer of your choice to massage your hands and feet. This will make them soft, smooth and supple.

  • Apply a base coat

Select a nail polish colour and then apply the base coat. Make sure you use long uninterrupted strokes for a better application.

  • Re-apply the second coat

After the first coat has dried, apply the second coat in the same manner until all your fingers have polish on them.

  1. Apply a top coat (optional)

If you like the extra shine on your nails, then you can apply a top coat with or without glitters.

  1. Let your nails dry

You shouldn’t rush or else all your efforts will go in vain. Let your nail polish dry naturally.

  1. Remove excess nail polish from the edges

If you have messed up the nail edges while applying nail polish, then use a cotton bud with a nail polish remover to get rid of them carefully.

By following these steps, you can get manicure and pedicure done at your home like a pro. This will also save you money and time. If you’re ready for such a pampering session, then wait no longer and start it right away to get perfect tips and toes in no time.
