You may have a whole world of apps on your smartphone to help you use it more efficiently. But, are you making the most out of your phone with the neat features it already has by default? Your smartphone comes with dozens of them, but some of the following may be the most useful.

Check out the best ways you can make your smartphone even smarter. Some include the attributes that come with the phone, while others involve downloading a few services that you’ll absolutely love.

Get the Most Out of Google Assistant

Google Assistant is one of the best features Google has rolled out to date. It’s a real rival to Siri, Cortana, and Alexa, and it has a great sense of humor.

It can tell you jokes, play music, show photos, read poems, and find something to watch online. Moreover, it can send messages, place calls, set alarms and timers, and show you the weather forecast. Besides, it helps you to navigate and find restaurants, hotels, and events nearby.

It is capable of opening any app on your phone and can help you find anything online.

Google Assistant will come in handy if you want to have fun when you’re bored. Just say “I’m bored,” and it will show you some games or tell you a joke. You can say and ask whatever you want, and it should understand you and respond accordingly.

If you’re a Doctor Who fan, there’s a fantastic treat for you. Ask Google Assistant: “When am I?” You’re welcome.

Split Your Screen in Two

You can use this feature if your smartphone has Android 7.0, or any later version of the operating system. Splitting your screen in two can become useful, as you can use two apps at the same time.

You no longer have to constantly switch between apps. You can hold down the overview button, and enter split-screen mode. That’s the square button at the bottom of your screen that you press to access and clear recent apps.

With this feature, you can easily multitask, as it allows you to use any two apps simultaneously. The best part about this? You don’t have to close your YouTube app anymore to do something on your phone. You can keep watching videos while sending messages and emails, browsing the web, and doing pretty much anything else.

Switch Airplane Mode On

Airplane Mode isn’t only for airplanes. It has several more benefits that can make your smartphone a lot more useful.

Whenever you’re experiencing issues with your 3G or 4G signal, toggle the Airplane Mode button on and off. You will instantly restore the signal.

Airplane Mode can also help you recharge your battery much faster. This is because it disables your WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, and mobile network – signal-transmitting technologies that drain your battery. This is a life-saver if you’re in a hurry to go someplace, and you don’t have a portable charger.

Finally, this mode can help you unsend a message. If you accidentally send a message to the wrong person, or you want to edit it, switch Airplane Mode on. That way, the message won’t be delivered. Pretty useful, isn’t it?

Text Safely While On-the-Go

If you text a lot, and you’re always out and about, you should get an app for texting safely. You don’t want to crash into someone – or something – while your eyes are glued to your screen, do you?

Luckily, there are two excellent apps for this, each for a different operating system. If you’re an Android user, download Type While Walk. If you’re an iOS user, download Type n Walk.

Both of these apps need access to your camera, to display a transparent view of what’s in front of you. You type your messages right over that display, clearly seeing where you’re going. This can be a literal life-saver, especially if you seldom look around where you’re going while texting.

Secure Your Data with a Mobile VPN

A mobile VPN is one of the best services you can have on your phone. It improves your security, preventing anyone from gaining access to your data, and personal and sensitive information.

A mobile VPN will encrypt your internet connection and assign you a fake IP address. This means that no one will be able to see your online activity. This is especially useful when you connect to public WiFi, as those hotspots aren’t encrypted.

Apart from securing your data, a mobile VPN will unblock geo-restricted content. You can access any region-restricted website as if you were a local visitor. You can also gain access to full Netflix content, as you’ll virtually be in a different geographic location.

Are you already using some of these smartphone tricks? There are plenty more, so be sure to explore them and make your smartphone a whole lot smarter.
